2014 was the year of hairstyles for the hair community at large. Now that most of us have discovered the benefits of having long healthy hair of our own and as we work towards that goal, we have been left with the question, How should I style my hair in the meantime?
To answer that question we knew that a gallery of hairstyles was just what the doctor ordered so we added our hairstyle gallery where you are free to show off your creative flair by sharing the gorgeous styles that you create. We share many of the styles across social media but they also kept for posterity to help others searching for styling ideas in the future.
Braided styles have made a huge comeback in 2014 with lots of stunningly creative box braids, twists and updo’s. It’s no wonder, lots of us have discovered the magic of protective styling. You style your hair in gorgeous braids or twists for a month or two, remove them and marvel at the length retention. Lather rinse and repeat until your hair reaches the length you want. How simple is that!
Ok there’s a bit more to it than that. There is picking the right conditioners, deep conditioning* regularly, steaming and analyzing your hair to ensure that you are giving it exactly what it needs to remain strong and continue to retain length. Trust me it’s a lot less complicated than it sounds.
Still unlike weaves which look best when some of your hair is left out to blend everything in, braids, cornrows and twists tend to protect every single strand. So if you have a problem area like the nape or you are trying to grow out your bangs then braided protective styles are best for you.
Even better is that you don’t have to look like a schoolgirl with braids or cornrows and some of the creative styles that our community has shared have shown that anyone can rock a gorgeous braided updo, some havana twists or even some well done singles.
So with that in mind I wanted to share with you the top 10 braided styles that rocked our world this year.
