Introduce yourself . . .
I love life! I love discovering things, making things (DIY freak!), travel, good food, meeting people, new cultures and like I said LIFE!
Are you relaxed, natural, texturized or texlaxed?
Natural
What’s your story, how did you get to where you are?
I use to get my hair relaxed at the age of 14 (after begging my mother for ages). I also started to dye my hair. I went through phases of really broken, damaged, brittle, flat and strangely colored hair that I did not know how to take proper care of.
This went on until the middle of 2009. My transition to natural hair was not a “romantic” revelation of wanting to “go back to my roots”. In all honesty I just got tired of having hair that did not go past my shoulders and looked (was) damaged.
So I transitioned by snipping off the ends of my hair as I grew my natural curls (I was not brave enough for a Big Chop). Towards the end of 2010 I had my curls back but I was still not sure how to take care of them! I actually contemplated getting my hair texturized but did not due to all the support, help and advice I got online (YouTube, Blogs, Forums etc). And here I am 4 years later and I couldn’t be happier!
What is your typical weekly regimen?
DIY cleanse, detangle with my fingers and conditioner, DIY deep condition, mositurize with my DIY leave-in and seal with my DIY sealing oil. Then I will style my hair in any of the following (depending on my mood and time): a wash-n-go, twists, twist-out, bun, ponytail or braid-out. And then I repeat this again every week.
Are you happy with your progress so far?
I am absolutely happy with my progress so far. At the start of 2013 I decided that I wanted to integrate more natural products into my hair and skin care. So at the moment I am using 90% DIY natural products that I make for myself! I love knowing what I am applying on my hair and skin!
What’s your signature style?
I either have my hair in a wash-n-go when I do not have time to “style” my hair otherwise in medium sized twists.
How do you ensure that your ends are protected from the elements and your hands?
I like to do some protective styles to protect my ends. I also always seal my ends with an oil (my almond/grape seed and coconut oil* mix) after I have moisturized with my DIY leave-in. I always seal my ends everyday!
Do you have a goal length or are you more concerned about the health of your hair?
I would say I am more concerned about health but I would not say that length is not important for me; I just do not focus on a particular length I just want it to grow healthy.
When I noticed my hair was getting healthier and starting to grow (I thought it would never grow past my shoulders) I loved it! The feeling of having hair on my back! I get a lot of shrinkage when my hair is dry but just the fact that when it is stretched or when I am in the shower and it goes down my back I LOVE IT!
Is there anything that you hair hates?
SHAMPOO! I do not know how it would feel about sulfate free shampoo* because I never tried but “normal” shampoo and my hair just DO NOT mix so I do not use it.
Do you have any favorite hair products?
When I decided that I wanted to integrate more natural products into my hair care I started to fall in love with my hair even more! My favorite store bought product would be my detangling/co-wash conditioner from Corine De Farme it is amazing at detangling, paraben free, silicon free and contains 98% natural origin ingredients. For my DIY products: my leave-in!
Where can we find you online?
I just started a blog and I still trying to get myself comfortable with YouTube. I found online sources so helpful while on my hair journey so I wanted to give it back.
