Treating the cause of hair loss
As with any illness, in order to truly stop hair loss, you have to get to the root of the problem (no pun intended). If you aren’t damaging your hair with chemicals and a poor hair care regimen, then you likely have an underlying condition.
Hair loss is known to be related to aging, hormonal imbalances and genetics. However, majority of the time, hair loss is caused by hair degradation.
This is when a substance known as DHT (dihydrotestosterone) starts to shorten your hair follicles. So you’ll go from patches of hair that are thick to hairs that are fragile and colorless. Now, the hairs may look dead, but they are still connected to your supply of blood, which means they are still alive and can be revived.
But it’s important to do this soon rather than later because the longer you wait, the thinner the follicles will become, causing them to eventually fall out.
The proof is in the pudding
Now, it comes down to emu oil and what it can do. Since your thinning hair is “falling asleep”, you need to give it a wake up call. As mentioned earlier research has shown that emu oil can wake up to 80% of sleeping hair follicles.
A study was performed by Boston University School of Medicine and it showed that applying emu oil to the skin increased hair growth by 20%, compared to corn oil. The hairs that grew were considered more robust and the skin appeared thicker. So emu oil not only promotes hair growth, but skin growth as well.
It’s believed that emu oil* is able to do this because it contains lots of essential fatty acids, especially oleic acid, which can deeply penetrate your skin.
Avoid unrefined emu oil
Unlike with coconut* and olive oil*, you don’t want to buy emu oil* that is unrefined. This means that it could still contain contaminants, since it has only been filtered.
You should also avoid emu oil that has been refined using lye and other chemicals. Instead, you should find refined and purified emu oil that is all-natural.
How to use emu oil
Once you have found a suitable emu oil, you should massage it into your scalp three times per day. When you have time, apply a generous amount of the oil into your scalp and allow it to sit for 20-30 minutes, then rinse it out.
It’s common for folks to witness hair growth within the first month, but for some, it can take as long as 90 days. Participants in a study used a couple drops of emu oil in their scalp and saw 8% regrowth per month. Over the period of six months, they witnessed 48% regrowth.
So be patient and consistent and the results will eventually come. You should also adopt a healthy hair care regimen to ensure that you’re not doing anything that’s counterproductive to your hair loss remedy.

I’m going to look for this and try it.

I know of someone who swore by emu oil although I haven’t tried it myself.

I am so glad emu oil is getting it’s props. i use it all the time and i swear by it. Do your homework on it first. See which ones are government certified. Between Jamaican Black Castor Oil and Emu Oil, I couldn’t go wrong.

i started using emu oil about a month or so ago and I’m in love. I was looking for information for healing a piercing and the website I found the piercer recommended emu oil. I did some research and learned of all the other possible uses/benefits. I mix it with other oils for hair and skin. I use just emu oil on my face now. And I have been using it on a surgery scar and it’s already helping with hypertrophic scarring. I just wish I revisited this a long time ago.

Because they have to kill the Emu to abstract it’s oil, I am totally against this method. There are too many products on the market for hair growth without selfishly destroying an animal to obtain. If you are a conscientious person, please try other oils. Thank you.

I just published an article about this exact topic too! Emu oil is great for hair loss caused by tight pulling. Like you pointed out, those hair follicles aren’t dead, they’re still in there but they’ve stopped actively growing. Emu oil wakes them up. http://emubliss.com/pages/emu-oil-for-hair
