Rachel continues to say:
“People can’t seem to believe that a black woman is able to have vibrant hair. Too many times I have been asked if my hair is a wig*, and my hair has been touched without permission. Stop.”

We all remember the year Beyoncé “chopped” all of her hair off and weeks later was back into her long hair. Beyoncé was making a statement pretty much. She was basically proving that with or without weave*, she is still Beyoncé. Her hair does not make her dance, sing, or move any better. The same goes for us all. We have got to realize that the hair does not provide us everlasting confidence. The confidence and beauty is within ourselves.
Start with something as simple as your hair to build this positive attitude of taking risks and being bold. There are several YouTubers who are fearless when it comes to trying new, bold colors. Nerfertiti Bourne recently went from green hair, to purple curls, and then to blond! Another to check out is BlueModel8. She experiments with bold hair colors as well, and Iman Malloy, who plays around with some daring colors too.
Okay, so once you’ve dyed hair, remember that it is extremely important to deep condition your hair weekly, no matter what type of dye you choose. Most likely bleaching will be involved to lift your natural hair color, so no skipping that deep conditioning* step. Bleach and/or dye can be damaging if you do not cater to your colored hair properly.
Dying your hair can also mean trial and error, believe it or not. If your hair color doesn’t turn out the way you wanted, please wait 1-2 months before re-coloring. *ATTENTION* SEE A PROFESSIONAL IF YOU HAVE NO CLUE WHAT YOU ARE DOING! That may save you some heartache down the road. If you decide to dye and bleach your hair yourself, do your research first!
