7. Air dry your style
Using a hooded dryer* or blow dryer* to get your style dry is not the way to go. Instead, keep your hair in the 4-6 jumbo braids and air dry.
This reduces the frizz and the shrinkage of your own natural hair. If you need to, use an old t-shirt to soak up the excess water to quicken the drying time.
I suggest that you do not use dry shampoo to avoid getting excess buildup from the powder on the scalp.
8. Moisturize and seal effectively
Wait until your style is 80% dry before moisturizing and sealing. You don’t want to do extra tampering while your style is still drying in order to avoid them from frizzing.
Use a commercial or your own DIY braid spray, making sure water is the main ingredient. You can also add oils* to your braid spray to effectively seal the moisture in your own hair.
Make sure to moisturize your hair at least 3 times a week. Daily is not necessary, which will keep the hair from frizzing. Try using a little bit of light gel like Eco styler* or flaxseed gel and run it along twists or braids. The gel will blend your own hair back into the braids or twists.
9. Keep up with a bedtime routine
Never go to bed without something covering your hair. You want to protect your hair from the fibers of the pillow case and you want to preserve the style as long as you can.
I do not recommend sleeping on a satin pillow case. You want to keep your hair wrapped up snuggly to keep your hair in place throughout the entire night. Do 4-6 loose jumbo braids to ensure that your style will not rub against itself or put your hair in a top bun.
Remember that no style lasts forever. Try to keep the time frame from 4 to 8 weeks. Anything past that is pushing your hair to mat up from the shed hair and/or loc up. Try these tips out to reduce the frizz, which will make you style to continue to look fresh.
