Introduce yourself and which salon if any you work at…
Hi! My name is Guvia Edukore and I’m a mobile hairstylist based in Tallahassee, Florida. I specialize in braids and twists and have over 10 years experience.
Braiding hair started out as just a past time for me and I never in a millions years thought it would turn into a passion that I love so dearly. It is honestly one of my favorite things to do and I thank my clients so much for helping me to turn it into a successful business. Thank you!
How long have you worked as a licensed cosmetologist (or equivalent in your country) and where did you study?
I’ve been a licensed braider since 2009. I trained in Florida and learned special braiding techniques in West Africa.
What is your specialty, relaxed, natural hair, locs or anything special?
My most requested style right now are the Senegalese/rope twists but I specialize in all types of braids and twists.
What in your opinion is the most rewarding thing about working as a hair stylist?
Outside of being able to artistically express myself through hair, the most rewarding thing about working as a stylist are my clients. I get to meet people with the most wonderful personalities and that makes my job an absolute thrill.
When you meet that customer that has not had a great experience with a previous stylist, how do you make them comfortable while in your chair?
When I meet a client that’s had a bad experience with a previous stylist, I make sure to listen to any concerns they have to assure them they’re in good hands.
If you could change one thing about the cosmetology industry what would that be?
I think stylists have adapted their business to the “diy” method that’s current right now. Meaning with social media, YouTube and the internet in general, there’s so many different ways for people to learn how to do things themselves and stylists have caught on to that.
So I think this new method has forced stylists to not only be better at their profession but to be more knowledgeable on hair care in general and that’s always a plus. With that being said, I think the cosmetology industry is heading in the right direction and I hope it continues to evolve and grow for the best because our clients deserve it.
Where do you see yourself a few years from now, what are your goals as a stylist?
I want to reach as many people as possible with my work as a hairstylist.
How do you stay motivated and on top of your game?
My passion keeps me motivated. I wake up everyday knowing that I am doing exactly what I want to do and it gives me the drive, dedication and most importantly, the pleasure of wanting to do it all over again. As the saying goes, “if you love your job, you’ll never have to work a day in your life.”
Here is a chance to sell you ‘the stylist’ and your business, tell us why we should utilize your services?
Outside of the years I’ve dedicated to perfecting my craft and my professionalism, the love, passion and commitment I’ve invested into my business speaks volumes into how much I love my job and love is always great to endorse!
In which city/state do you mainly work?
As previously stated, I’m based in Tallahassee, Florida but I’m mobile so I’m willing to travel!
How can we contact you for an appointment?
To schedule an appointment, you can contact me at (850) 241-3624
