This morning I came across a story that was posted on Facebook written by distraught mom Teresa Sealey. Teresa took her child to day care with her hair intact and in ponytails, only to pick her up and immediately noticed that her child’s hair was missing.
We have seen this same story one too many times and the worse part about it it, nobody at the establishment can explain what happened to her baby girl’s hair.
The Guyanese mom shared this story on Facebook and is asking for even more shares because even though she will not get her daughter’s hair back, this daycare is now under investigation for a similar allegation:
On Wednesday morning at 7am I drop my child off at Des Noel Daycare n Playgroup 4 Symth street Georgetown!!! I waited there for transportation for work at the time, they had only 2 teachers in the school n 2 1st year nursery school kids… When I came back at 5pm to pick my child up her hair was cut off… At first when I ask about my child’s hair Miss Dariss said I brought her like that.. I became very annoyed …. The headmistress for the school then ushered me inside n started to beg n cry… Obvious thing I did I cried I was angry n hurt my child is just 15 months old she is a baby n I put her care in the hands of this school.. I called my husband n I try n find a timeline as in when her hair was cut, as I ask questions one teacher from th school said ( when she CME to work I was outside n Maria hair was already short) so that was it I was right outside when my kid hair was cut:( I asked the teacher that I give my child to if her hair was cut when I handed her over she replied ( it had a red ribbon n was on the side with the excess hanging) I’m keeping calm cos I’m in a daycare …. I asked n cry n wanted to know y and I requested my child’s hair ….. I was offered compensation which I rejected at once NO AMOUNT OF MONEY IS WORTH MY KIDS SAFETY… PPL WHO KNOW ME KNOWS THAT.. the following day I went to child care & protection agency only to be told that the same thing happen last week Thursday to another child that has the same hair texture as my child n at the same spot of the head!!! I’m very angry that they won’t give me my child’s hair n that they all are keeping if quiet as in what really happened …. So I’m putting this out there PLZ SHARE cos I will find what they did with my child’s hair
Since this post the Guyana Times newspaper has reported that the principal of the school in an interview confirmed that ‘the matter’ is under investigation:
In an interview with this newspaper on Monday, the principal of the Playgroup, Sandra Straker told this publication that “the matter” was currently under investigation by the Guyana Police Force and she was instructed by her lawyer not to give any comments to any media operatives without his consent.
However, CC&PA Director Ann Greene told this publication that the issue had been reported and was currently engaging the attention of the agency.
I have so many opinions on this sort of thing, but I keep coming back to two emotions, anger and sadness because honestly I do know what I would do if one, my child’s hair was cut off and two, they refuse to give me an explanation on the matter.
How does a daycare who is in charge of your child’s care and safety not know how a child’s hair got shaved off? Seems to me that you should not be in the business of caring for children.
With that said we are hoping that Teresa’s story gets enough traction until this daycare understands that their reputation is not only in jeopardy, but as moms we stand with Teresa in support of her and what they did to her little girl. Just ridiculous!

I agree with you! There is more to this story that the public isn’t getting. I work in a daycare and this don’t sound right. Even the pictures look fishy to me.
Fishy, how? On the part of the mother? These things happen… and worse. When my mother left me at daycare, within a few weeks she saw that my skin was dry and shrivelling up. She took me to the doctor who said I was malnourished. She wondered why I was starving when I got home. My mom left 2 bottles of breast milk for me every day. That daycare fed it to other children and left me with nothing. Yes, strange and offensive things can happen to your child at these places. Needless to say, my mother found another daycare.
This is why people come up missing!!

Actually if it was an adult it could be seen as child abuse or assault, this is against so many rules in public education and child caring.

Ive worked with kids most of my career. I know its child abuse, but physically fighting when the child is relatively unharmed and wont remember this event is stupid.
It’s not the point as to whether the kid will remember. but, I guarantee, the daycare will.
If ur child was raped but still alive would u not feel the urge to pull someone else’s hair out

Ok Sammone, you got me. If my child was raped, if be furious. ARE YOU KIDDING ME??!! Are you really comparing rape to a haircut??? Be serious. Rape is tramatic for several reasons. It’s a HAIRCUT. If you don’t make a big deal out of not, then neither will the child. The hair will grow back. Rape is in a completely different world. Last time I checked, it was not illegal to give a child a haircut, however it is illegal to touch a child sexually. That’s harm to my child. Not a haircut.
Ashlee Franco I think she meant that as a means of shock simply because we don’t know what happened to this baby while someone was cutting it’s hair, h/she could’ve been held down, screaming ,frightened etc…
No one should touch your child without permission abuse is abuse from rape, to punches or cutting their hair and someone needs to pay for it, to be honest I think the parents should’ve went off because this makes me wonder what else is going on in that day care that the parents DON’T know about and can’t see.
Cutting hair does not equate abuse unless it was done during emotional or mental distress. If she feels like her child was raped/ physically abuses, then she should’ve taken her to the hospital to her checked out.
Ashlee Franco that’s what I’m saying mom wasn’t there and never gave permission this WAS abuse, my son is 9 and hasn’t had his hair cute in 4 yrs because every time he went he had a panic attack and had to be held down I couldn’t do it anymore and neither could he….
This baby didn’t just lay there and let it happen, someone had to physically restrain her to get it cut and the fact that their not telling who cut it makes it all worse in my book.
Actually cutting someone’s hair is considered assault. If u walk up to someone and cut their hair you will get assault charges because their hair is a part of their body
if the daycare was handling things in a civilized way….that baby’s hair would’ve still be on her head. daycare can’t give you an answer as to what happened to your child’s hair…..IT’S ACT A FOOL TIME AND JAIL TIME IF NEED BE.
Not as serious as rape, but this is still an assault. Period. They had NO RIGHT WHATSOEVER to touch this childs’ hair, without permission from the custodial parent or guardian. I’m actually surprised at some of the comments. What if you went to sleep and woke up with your hair cut off?? Simply not okay in any sense of the word. I would not have started a physical fight, but a legal one for sure.
Someone, probably the initial person I handed my baby to, would catch fire! That baby is defenseless and there is no reason for this bull! I’m tired of hearing about daycare workers doing things and allowing stuff to happen to the children that they are supposed to take care of!

The reason the daycare can’t give an explanation: They know who did it, but they don’t want to admit they did anything wrong. If it was me, I would tell them, “You can either tell the truth and give me an explanation, or the next time I see you will be in court because I WILL press charges”.
That’s 2 different children. Look carefully. However, if it did happen. ….. lawsuit is in order!
