Before I started my natural journey, I was the queen of sew ins, and it was rare that anyone ever saw me without one installed. So much so, that I even forgot what my real hair looked like underneath the sew in.
However, once I became natural I stopped getting sewins because of the fact that I wouldn’t be able to blend the two textures, without straightening my hair and potentially causing unwanted heat damage.
I thought that I would have to kiss the long straight tresses goodbye, until I tried a lace front wig for the first time, and loved it! Lace front wigs are a special type of hair piece or wig* in which human hair or synthetic hair is tied by hand or sheer lace base which goes over the scalp. Lace front wigs are my go to wigs, and here’s why:
1. There is no stress on your natural hair underneath the wig
One of the drawbacks of my sewin obsession was the fact that sometimes the stylist would sew in the hair too tight, and it would cause stress on my natural hair underneath, and sometimes breakage. With lace front wigs*, there is no stress, and if it is too tight, you can simply adjust the straps, or take it off!
2. More Realistic
Lacefront wigs* have a sheer lace that is scalp colored and easily blends with your scalp. Depending on the wig*, people may even mistake it for your real hair, because it is just that believable.
3. Up High or Down Low
One of the reasons I prefer lace front wigs, as opposed to other wigs is because of the fact that I can wear the wig in a high pony or even a low pony if I want, and it will still look natural.
4. Quick, Fast, and Easy
Lace front wigs are easy to apply, and it takes all of 5 minutes or less to cut the lace to your desired length.
5. Budget Friendly
Even though there are lace front wigs out there that will cost you an arm and a leg, there are many that are budget friendly, and sold at your local beauty supply store!
One day I may splurge on a more expensive lace front wig, but for now I’m perfectly content with the more affordable ones.
