I will be honest and say I should have written this post a few hours ago but I couldn’t get past the “Why would someone do that to themselves?” or the “Is it really that serious, can a person not appreciate their own hair that much?”
Those are all judgmental statements and while we live in a judgmental world we aren’t called to judge all the time and today I wasn’t here for my own thoughts on this situation!
Let me get off my issues and tell the story, here is a lady that literally allowed her weave to remain in her hair for 2 years straight, no exaggeration.
Her picture was shared by her stylist at Elite Strands a salon in Brooklyn. The salon shared pictures and Instagram videos across social media platforms about their client how they tackled the removal of the 2 year old weave.
The question I had, was what happened as the hair grew out because as most of us know your hair never stops growing.
The answer was pretty easy to find, the client would have new tracks glued close to the top of her head which means the stylist was faced with old glue, old tracks and tangled hair from 2 years worth of neglect.
The only way out of this mess would be to big chop and that is exactly what the salon confirmed happened:
One thing is for sure the stylist is dedicated to what she does. She saw this as a challenge and quite frankly it definitely benefited her on business level.
Many of the commentors on Instagram were pretty mean, calling the lady ‘nasty’ but like I mentioned before that is just the world we live in.
It is very difficult not to look at a 2 year old weave and not wonder if the hair was ever washed? How was the state of her scalp? Is this even real?
But again I will refrain from over thinking it, I will leave that to you guys! Comment below and let us know what you think about this story.

Just so nasty. The dirt and filth and matting, trifling. Would you wait two years to wash your rear end? Your head needs cleansing too.
Reva Flowers says
I’m curious to know how much that stylist charged her to fix this….
Brianna Barksdale says
Personally if she ended up just chopping it all off I can’t imagine much
Reva Flowers says
The process took 7 hours… To remove, cut, and give her a new look!
Raynisha Renee Jackson says
I would have charged her more than $300 for that service. That’s sweat, blood & tears trying to come up with a solution for the old weave, then more work to come up with a solution on putting a NEW weave on some big chopped hair…ain’t no $100 solution!
Latanya Brailey says
$300?! Shoooooot! I’m not a hair stylist, but TRUST me…….GROUPON would not have been able to help her had it been ME taking that utter funkness off her head!
Kylee Donkor says
Dedra Ballantyne Allison Williams Andrea Williams
Rel Combo says
Why the fuck would she leave it in for that damn long. Knowing that you could literally fuck up your real hair underneath. You have to allow your hair to air out or else this will happen. How dumb can she be. Now you have no other choice but to shave it all off. It’s no way of saving that shit. Her real hair look like brunt carpet.
Tiffany Nicole Roberts says

i’m never surprised. as the salon director for RESH for the past 5 years, i’ve seen more than you can imagine. all claim that they are “protecting” their hair…from who…from what? may i suggest that you stay off youtube, find products that actually work and consult a licensed professional. that is all
Berthonia Dl says
I once left a weave in for 3 months, biggest mistake ever, never doing that again!! The big chop is her only option. If that were me (godforbid) I would have choped it off myself, why pay someone to do it and have my business posted on social media for everyone to see and criticize?
Shāy Ponts says
I’ve kept a sew-in for three months before, but it was professionally installed as well as washed every 2-3 weeks. Maintenance is key…
Jacey Nivar says
Ya’ll just pray for her,you got to have spiritual minded issues to do something like that.I know I was sick in the head when I was wearing wigs, weaves, relaxers, fake this fake that etc….My uncle wanted to whoop me for putting that stuff on my hair (lol) I miss hearing him say “YOU GONNA WAKE UP ONE MORNING LOOKING LIKE MISS ALOPECIA IF YOU DON’T STOP MESSING WITH GODS WORK”!! Thank God I have gotten over that.I am proud of my kinky curly hair.God makes no mistakes.
Angelique Smith says
I decided to go natural almost a year ago. I still do braids but no more yaki for me and it feels good. My boyfriend loves it too
Jacey Nivar says
I stopped covering my natural hair over 6 years ago.Chemicals, weave and all damaged my hair and skin, but today you can never tell.I had a so called man that told me if I ever went natural he would leave me and I said you know what I live for God and not man so here’s two choices your old blank blank can do,you can either jump out the window or leave the same way you came in my home.My health is more important than anything besides God and my children.I love wearing natural hair,I learned how to grow my own hair by finding out what my grandparents used back in the old days.Onion juice, aged garlic, black strap molasses will make your hair grow, especially bee pollen so my hair is very long,My sons are so proud of me,I didn’t know I was truly embarrassing them when I wore wigs, relaxers…Thank God I am done with it all.I proudly wear my hair in big jumbo bantu knots or a twist out Afro and I feel good.God is good!!
MsLadyE says
I’m with you! About that “man” who threatened to leave you if you went natural, I’m glad you left that turkey. LOL And I commend your sons for loving & respecting you for who you are. I’m also glad your health is improving. God IS good! Be blessed!
MizKiz Be says
What hair I have is natural but I do wear wigs. What she did was serious imbalance, maybe what you did was “sick” as you said not me, I don’t know you. But not everyone who wears hair is sick or mentally ill. I like the convenience and freedom of taking it off. Sow ins sound like a head hair prison. yikes ! I started wearing hair after serious illness and working in the corp world, and I actually liked it. Wigs are fun. Stay blessed. Glad you are now doing something that suits you best. 🙂
Jacey Nivar says
Putting relaxers (chemicals) and white weave etc… and all that stuff on my hair to me was a sickness in my opinion. My uncle would sit down and say you got to be foolish to put something in your hair that can unclog a drain and can burn your scalp and hair that ain’t even yours……..But you know whatever works for you, great, but what works for me is being natural and being healthy.Stay blessed
MizKiz Be says
I had a physical illness that took my hair away. Though my health has greatly improved my hair never recovered. So I braid what little I have, its just enough to pin a wig to. No one needs a reminder that they physically went thru somethin on everyones face everyday. By the grace of God, I’m good. But I do miss my hair. So yeah, I enjoy putting on some hair when I’m out and about. Personally, I don’t do human hair. Synthetic is fine, heat styled is an option. Also gives me variety that don’t break my bank. I can see what you say about it being a sickness to some, because the obsession can get extreme like the 2 yr lady, and people who spend thousands and thousands for sow ins. Some people, like me who is trying to find a natural way to restore my hair and need some normalcy and actually find it wearing hair.
MizKiz Be says
Tried some of the things you did. Not the onion or garlicjuice tho. Bee Pollen, got it, mollasses and I take mollasses powder to that’s a huge help in restoring my health. Raw honey and coconut oil improved my scalp but no growth. I went natural with what I put in my body. It’s still a journey back to good health.
Jacey Nivar says
I am going to pray for you,I know God is able to do anything, but fail……I believe it will grow,Over 6 yrs ago I lost all mine twice due to chemicals, wigs and all…if you was on Pinterest I would be glad to show you my hair and how long and thick my hair is since leaving chemicals etc…alone and treating my hair with old remedies.I don’t use commercial brand hair or skin products because of the ingredients in it.I don’t even use deodorant,it can have bad effects on your health.I spray my underarms with apple cider vinegar, rub it in to keep any odor away, the vinegar smell dissipates after 2 minutes. And yes, blackstrap molasses is great,it’s just about the only thing I shampoo my hair with or use as a healthy drink.I also use it on my puppy, then I oil her down with peanut oil or castor oil. Please let me know if you need me.
MizKiz Be says
Would love to connect. I need people who are into natural remedies and Jesus as much as me!
Paulette Hasty-Crawford says
Jacey Nivar,i would love to know where I could get these products because I too am tired of covering my natural hair with braids and weaves… ONLY because my own hair refuses to grow. Would love to go natural
Pearl Xoliswa Mkhefa says
N i cant even leave it for two months :/ #weird_isht
Tamara N Harvey says
Stupid
Karyn Miller says
It’s easy for me to post a negative comment about this, but I won’t simply because it won’t help me to understand what she was thinking! Obviously something is going on with her mentally, this is not normal behavior on any level.
Dee Eaglin says
Just think, her hair could have probably been long and healthy had she not added the other tracks with glue..
Jo Harris says
Thts the highest level of laziness. She need help
Edwige Jolie Belle says
Disgusting.
Ciara Smith says
I’m stuck ! So she just kept gluing in tracks cuz they would have slipped if it was glued n if it was sewn it that had to b loose as ever n hanging by braids. I’m done
BrownEyegirl Mendez says
That’s just plain nasty!!!! She deserve for all her damn hair to fall out & snakes to start growing in it.
Marcia Watson says
Way too harsh of a comment.
Yolanda Hill says
Lol!!! The best comment for today.
Joan Christina says
How long are u suppose to leave a weave in ur hair I normally would get the hair clips I find it to be so much easier
Tia Meshon'raven Fuller says
With glue it will let you know when the weft hair (tracks) start slipping that’s when you take them down and wash. With sew in you could leave it in for 2 and a half months If you wanted to. Like I do with mines gives my natural time to grow. Also with sew in you can wash your hair if the braids are tight enough and the sew in was done correct. Wash very gently that will keep your hair clean.
Joan Christina says
Yea that just sounds like to much lol I’ll stick to my braids and clip in wen I want a weave …but thank u
Alisha Willingham says
I know her weave was stanky. It doesn’t take much to take your hair down wash then reinstall
Teisha Laydeet Williams says

Ayanna Davis says
That is the new weave to the right and the death trap on the left
Jennifer Michel Sims says
The hair on top wasn’t two years old. She glued new weave over the old weave periodically. So the crown looks fresh but I bet the base weave looked as messed up as her natural hair.
Tarsha Lee says
I dont want to judge but My God 2 years….did she have any pain because i know there had to be mold and sores in her head. And i can only imagine the smell. I pray everything works out for her
Tameka Ferrebee says
My natural hair smells after 2 wks . I dnt wear weaves but I have helped take them dwn before and the hair smells bad. Ijs no judgement

Patricia Gumbs says

Ta-Nika Abbott-Newman Moore says
This has to be Fake!!
Julie R Salazar says
Yes it could be fake, maybe she wants this kind of attention, a mental thing or if you had a family member with this issue what kind of family does she have that just doesn’t care! Where is FAMILY?
Shauntai Leach says
She’s probably not mentally ill. Some women are just lazy when it comes to their hair. They go natural thinking its less work and when they find out its not they just stop doing anything to their hair at all. Maybe it was her finances and that was all she could afford. I really don’t know but my scalp wouldn’t let me do it. It’s sad she had to chop it all off.
Teresa Sands says
Nasty heffa!

Cha LaBranche says

Sade Lyriciss West says
ewww 2 years tho. trife life
Robin Overmyer says
She was putting new glue on top of old glue, she wasn’t washing it at all. I’ve only worn weave once in my life and that was 16 years ago. I tagged my sister because they wear it so I wanted to know why would somebody do this to their hair. From what I could see, mold or some sort of bacteria started to form…
Libby says
And this is why there are websites like this one to educate women in their hair journey. We can’t judge what she thought the definition of what she thought beauty was. As you can see from the article, she even tried to save her matted hair before the hairdresser told her it had to be cut off. so what does it say about the pressure of being beautiful? It says to me that she wants to be beautiful no matter the cost and that’s scary to me because there has to be a better way to teach women everywhere to be their own kind of beautiful.
MzBean K. Rickman says
OMG!!…. that is such poor hygiene.
Toshi Loveslife says
Nastyy…. 3 months tops for me.. She should be ashamed of herself
Shakayla Renee Spears says
It had to itch!
Sher Mullings says
She nasty

Starr Thomas says
No No no just because the hair last for two years doesn’t mean you leave it in for Two years
Shay Nixon says
Yuck that’s nasty as hell one month or two is long enough. .
Jasmine Jackson says
Her poor scalp
Penny Cents says
MY QUESTION IS: HOW much$$ did that appt cost for them to spend 4+ hours trying, deciding it won’t work, chopping, washing, disinfecting, reinstalling… Exhausted thinking about it. You couldn’t pay me!
Hersheys Sovignon says
Just nasty come lady.
Christina Albertus says
i say this article must be a hoax this is imposseble their is no way you can leave a weave 2 years in common people let’s we all be real here your natural hair will start to break off at least a year remember the weave is stich on your hair that will start to grow out and then your hair will start to crack and break even if there is some hair left when they start to mess with the natural hair everything will fall apart it like touching a mummy if you are not carefull enough it will fall apart so this story is imposseble there is no way she can stich another weave on her head again she will be bold that red hair on the pic that most be wig common people think about it
Deirdre Walker says
No hoax I saw the video
Tina Waters says
“imposible” no it isn’t. Uncombed hair will mat once it mats it will not shed and fall out. It stays on her head like locs. The condition of her scalp most likely kept growth to a minimum so she was able to just glue on new tracks as the old ones broke down (thinned out). She had to have been going through some real issues. I hope she got help.
And I ragged on a friend for keeping hers for 5 months. I’ve heard it all now.
Jennifer Michel Sims says
Her weave wasn’t sewn in, it was glue, and for two years she only added more hair to her crown where you could see the new growth. Like Tina said, the hair underneath eventually matted together, which is why this was even possible. Basically she had old weave glued to matted hair for two years. Absolutely possible.
Neka Coleman says
I think it was a sew in & as it grew out she would add glued in tracks on top to make it look new … NASTY ASS
Christina Albertus says
Sewn glue common now both will break the natural hair I guess non of y’all knows how much work needs to be done when you have dreadlocks!! You need to take care of it washing spin it put any special lotion in it so it will not break now imagine 2 years no kind of treatment at all what you will think will happen? Before you all go by you mind think go and try it your selfs or aks a rasta men what could happen if he don’t take care off his hair for 2 years
Tina Waters says
Christina Albertus I have locs. I’ve had them since 2007. I started them myself and I maintain them myself. I know exactly how much “work” they need. There is no special lotion they only require washing and moisture. I use natural hair care products but I could use relaxed hair care products and get the same results.
Whether you have cultivated locs or like some men of the Rastafarian faith just leave them to mat however they choose, hair WILL mat together.
The video shows her original sew-in tracks and the matted grown attached to it. It doesn’t really matter if you believe it or not, I was just telling you that it is very possible and how.
Christina Albertus says
some rasta men don’t take care of their lock agree special lotion that;s exactly what i mean with moisture some use aloe vera the conclusion is the same they take care off it anyway like all of you i need to see that video that i will shut up women hair is diffrent from men
Neka Coleman says
I seen the video it is real just like some ppl start they dreads with very small braids if you leave them alone they will mat & come together if you leave them alone you don’t need nothing … It depends on the person when they grow out you can use a re-locking gel but most ppl just let them grow as is especially rastafarians because they gotta let them grow natural as is nothing like she did so she had one big ass dread …
Mel Wood says
No it’s not I saw the video. It’s real
Niece Noworries Beenreal says
*Impossible*
Tina Waters says
Hair doesn’t have a sex. Hair is the same no matter whose head its growing on. The video is there for anyone to see. Two years is a long time but if you Google it you will see a lot of videos where women left their weaves in for more than a year. I saw one where a white lady didn’t comb hers for years. They ended up cutting hers out too. I don’t know what psychological issues these people have and I can’t and wont judge them. I can only pray they get the help they need.
Neka Coleman says
Christina Albertus rastafarians uses nothing for they dreads it’s against the religion the do everything natural … REAL RASTAFARIANS & you don’t have to be dread fi bi a rasta … Ain’t no special lotion now it’s things you can use just for dreads but it’s a rip of just for you to buy it … Cause you can use any gel to retwist or anything to moisturize it , its hair aint no different from men & women hair you sound crazy
Marcella Jersey Laboy says
Ewww. .you couldn’t smell that? !?!
Tricia Unbreakable Beazer says
Wtf
Neema Zake says
that’s madness right there
Cherry Harvey says

Joy Moten says
That is so nasty!
Lynn Ellis says
So she aint wash her head in two yearssss???????!
Veronica Renee' Hall says
Y’all obviously didn’t read the article… She was in a very depressed state and didn’t care about anything. Her finally taking her weave out and cutting all the matted hair off was her starting a new beginning for her life.
Cynthia R. Goard says
What in the hell is going on here?? I’m not trying judge but dammit that’s not even an option!! I bet her hair was stinking too.
Briana Rhèun Johnson says
whyyy
Marjorie Brown says
Just downright horrific who in their right mind helped her take it out???
Felicia Fulmore says
She has to shave all her hair off and start back over.
Chacetea Bracey says
A mess is all I know
Laci MostEnvied Chambers says
Thats nasty!! I dont care how good u take care of your hair thats triflin
Tina Waters says
That’s just crazy. I would have started with the clippers. There’s no way you can untangle two years of matted hair. Hours of wasted time. Grab those clippers and shave. An hour tops.
I can’t imagine what issues the client had that she could keep a two year old weave and just keep gluing over it. I hope she got help.
リン ケルシ一 says
If she took care of her hair from day 1 her hair would be as long as the weave by now. ..but look at her, all that effort, now she bald

MsCurlyKat says
Ok, if this is real, it’s gross. I don’t wear weaves, and my scalp gets a little uncomfortable if I wait too long to shampoo it, her scalp had to be unhealthy under all that. The stylist is to be commended for rehabilitating what was left of her hair, and initially trying to work through it; when I was a stylist I would have apologetically told her from the beginning I was going to have to cut it all the way up to where it wasn’t matted, and I was not a scissors-happy stylist. As for her state of mind, I feel like she may have been living a lie, it got good, and she continued. She started getting compliments on how nice her hair looked, and rather than changing it when she was supposed to, she decided to let it “grow” out, like it was her own long, healthy hair. Definitely some form of mental illness going on here, as well as possible self esteem issues. Glad she got it out, kind of disappointed she apparently got more weave though instead of letting her own hair and scalp rest. Let’s hope she keeps it up this time, instead of disappearing for another 2 years, or takes it out on her own when it grows out some. My question is, did she have any real friends or family members who cared? I don’t think so, because a real friend would have taken her aside at some point and let her know it was starting to look a little bad, maybe even offered to fix it for her. And family, while they might not be as nice, would likely get straight to the point and tell her, “hey your hair is looking a little ragged, maybe it’s time to get it fixed”.
MsLadyE says
I’m surprised this lady has ANY hair at all. And she could have gotten a serious scalp infection from leaving that weave in for 2 years. WHAT WAS SHE THINKING????
