The other day we had the pleasure of speaking with the beautiful Diane Da Costa, author and celebrity hair stylist, and she allowed us to ask her anything from the details of her own gorgeous hair color to her outstanding work in the hair industry.
Diane shared a lot that we can all benefit from and we are thrilled to share all the details here with you.
Hello I am Diane Da Costa Author, celebrity stylist, Curly Textured Expert and Beauty Consultant, Owner and Creative Director for SimpleeBEAUTIFUL Boutique & Salon.
Diane, you have had a long fruitful career, how did you first get involved with Hair care?
Professionally, after college I enrolled in the Robert Fiance Hair Design Institute while I was working in Public Relations. After 2 years of apprenticeship and assisting with the top celebrity stylists and entrepreneurs in NYC, I landed a stylist position at Turning Heads in Harlem which was the leading natural hair care salon in NYC at the time. After 6 years there, I branched out on my own and opened Dyaspora Salon.
We know that your philosophy is that textured hair is gorgeous hair, what made you adopt such a philosophy and why is it important to you?
I always believed textured hair was the best. My entire family has natural curly and wavy hair. I never relax my clients hair bone straight. I’ll use a texturizer which leaves a wave pattern to create full healthy hair for clients who prefer that type of style. Even to this day I am a sodium hydroxide free salon. For those who want less frizz more manageability, I offer botanical smoothing treatments. Texture is everything it leaves you more options and versatility!
You are the ultimate beauty guru and we would all like to get advice from you even if its just one thing. So if you could give us the ultimate beauty tip, what would that be?
My advice would definitely be conditioners are your best friends. Hydrating and leave in conditioners work for detangling and hydration. Moisturizing essential oil cocktails under the steamer* is essential to deeply revitalize the hair cuticle from the inside out.
