Set a simple hair regimen and routine
Both natural and relaxed women can get carried away when it comes to the various methods and products we try, but for the most part we all follow a basic formula or similar routines. Figure out an appropriate wash routine, an effective moisturizer, a great sealant, and some cute yet simple hairstyles.
I remember not knowing what to do to my hair at all; washing my hair daily, then throwing some gel and water in it and heading out the door. Obviously, that didn’t work and I wish I had a proper hair regimen when I was doing all that damage back in the day.
A lot of times we tend to carry what we learned about beauty and hair from our mothers with us into adulthood and continue those practices until we learn better. So forming the right regimen and routine at a young age will definitely come in handy as she gets older.
Help her set goals
Some people want to grow longer hair while others just wish to maintain healthy hair no matter what the length is. Help your daughter figure out what she wants to do with her hair and create a plan to start working towards it.
For an example, if she wants to retain length then a great goal would be to start trying low manipulation styles and products that would help her hair grow after getting trims.
This is an important step because the teenage years are when they start making major decisions–this includes hair. They may want to dreadlock their hair or maybe start their transition to natural, so pinpoint what they want to do, determine if it is okay with you, and then begin moving forward.
No matter what direction they want to go in, make sure they have set goals, a regimen and routine, and know what the phases are for their particular goal.
