Early in my natural hair journey I experimented with a lot of oils trying to find something which works well for my hair.
So one day I decided to buy coconut* oil after seeing many bloggers mentioning its benefits. I looked at the pictures of natural hair bloggers who were using coconut oil* and I thought I want my hair to be like that.
That was probably mistake number one. I noticed that some of the naturals used it in both deep conditioning* and also applied it on their hair to seal the moisture. Their hair looked so soft and so moisturized and since it was Winter season for me I thought this was perfect.
I heated coconut oil in the microwave until it was melted then mixed it with my deep conditioner*. After deep conditioning* and washing my hair I then applied coconut* oil and then braided my hair.
After my hair was dry I took the braids out to style my hair and I received a shock of my life, my hair was so dry and it looked white. The coconut oil* had solidified on my hair and formed a white layer, I looked like I was covered in snowflakes.
I couldn’t go out with my hair like that and funny enough I didn’t think of blow drying my hair because this would have helped to melt some of the oil.
I just panicked because I was new in the natural hair journey and clearly I used way too much on my hair. I ended up re-washing my hair again with some warm water to get the excess oil out.
These days I still use coconut oil and my hair loves it but I only use it sparingly and I never use it in the Winter time.
What hair catastrophes have you had?
Bs.. I’m not buying this story. Sounds to me she failed to wash out all the shampoo. The heat of her scalp along with the braids and the hair wrap she was using to keep her braids fresh should have helped the coconut oil remain in its liquid form.
True coconut oil heats at the touch of your finger tips…
This is only one coconut agrees with my, the other brand makes my 4B low porosity hair feel hard
How exactly is this a catastrophe? If you can wash your hair and completely fix the issue, it is not that serious.
These articles honestly are unnecessary. On top of being brief, they offer nothing that’d be of interest to anyone but the writer. Out of maybe every TEN articles here, there are three that are interesting, but the rest are useless and look like comments instead of hair posts. If you can’t think of anything better, ask the readers what they want to see and read. Anything else isn’t going to get more than an upturned nose at this rate.
