So here at BHI we tend to be big fans of silicone serums for their excellent moisture sealing benefits so when a bottle of Fantasia IC Heat Protector Straightening Serum found its way into our styling arsenal, we were dying to try it.
It looks girly in its pink opaque bottle and smells vaguely of watermelon! The product cover says that the serum protects hair when used with ceramic flat irons* and heat styling tools, contains vitamin E* and silicone which seals in moisture making hair looking silky smooth. Prevents frizz in all types of damp and humid conditions.
We tried the product on tightly curled 4a locks that tend to poof and frizz up about an hour after straightening so we couldn’t wait to see if it worked as a humidity blocker.
The instructions state that you should use about 6 drops on damp hair, a bit less on dry hair. The hair was washed beforehand and when damp, a dime sized amount was rubbed onto the palms and massaged into the hair as evenly as possible, paying particular attention to the roots which tend to frizz up faster. The product was then combed through the strands thoroughly with a wide tooth comb*. The hair was blow dried in sections with a round brush attached heat styler.
The first thing you will noticed was how smooth and straight my hair becomes after blow drying. It was still slightly textured but much less so than when the hair is blown-dry without the serum. It’s easy to imagine that less textured hair would be completely straight at this point! Another thing that struck us was how light the hair was. It moved with every shake of the head and was not greasy at all. It didn’t feel absolutely necessary to flat iron* the hair but no use doing a product test in halves so we soldiered on!
The hair was flat ironed in sections and even on a medium heat, it only took a single swipe to get each section smooth and silky and literally falling through the fingers!

Alana Prince says
Did the hair poof up? Is it a good humidity blocker? How long does itast before it has to be washed? Will it work if the hair wasn't washed prior to straightening? Lots of questions, sorry.
The Real Person!
Hi Alana, fantasia ic is resonably ok at keeping away humidity but it is not by a long shot the best product out there. The hair eventually poofed up after a few days but you have to remember that at the time I wasn't using heat a lot on my hair. I still use the serum even now and my hair lasts all week, it could possibly last another week but I never go more than 7 days without washing my hair. Don't straighten your hair without washing it first otherwise breakage city!
