If someone asked me to name one thing that can describe a popular trend for natural hair this year, I would have to say “fun , candy- coated hair colors!”
From aquamarine blues to bubble gum pinks, us naturals have really been having fun with our God-given hair.
This is such a refreshing thing to see, because I remember at one point in time where many of us were afraid to show our natural hair and now look at us! We are showing off our natural textures and letting the world know that we are here even more by dying them in eye-catching colors! Below, we have shared with you guys some of the top color trends that have been popping up throughout the natural hair community.
1. Purple
Purple, has been one of those colors that have been popping up left and right this year. From Brittany Sky to real life street inspiration, the naturals have been in a serious “purple haze” this year.
How to achieve this hair color: For most, the best way to get that deep beautiful purple hair color would be through Manic Panic’s Semi-Permanent Purple Haze Hair Color or through Ion Color Brilliance Bright Semi-Permanent Color in Fuchsia.
Getting that beautiful, pure purple color would unfortunately require bleaching if your hair is naturally dark. This is due to the true color showing up best on naturally light colored hair or hair that have been pre-lightened. However, if you just want to have purple undertones, then you can use this hair color without bleaching.
Where to find this hair color: You can find the products to achieve this hair color hair color at beauty supply stores, Hot Topic, and on online stores such as Amazon.

2. Aqua/Azure Blue
I just love this color. Every time I see someone with this hair color, I think of mermaids. I know I know, RANDOM! But it is so true. I just think of the aqua/teal color as a beautiful color for natural hair (or any kind of hair for that matter).
How to achieve this hair color: To get this color, you can try Ion Color Brilliance Bright Semi-Permanent Color in Azure or Aqua (depending on which blue you’re are going for, N Rage Demi -Permanent in Twisted Teal, or Mani Panic Atomic Turquoise.
Unfortunately, as mentioned before, to allow the true color to shine through, you would have to lighten your hair if your hair isn’t already a light color. However, you can get a subtle color by just applying these colors on your natural hair color. You can find most of these products in beauty supply stores such as Sallys, and at online stores such as Amazon.
