Girl, I get it! You ain’t got time to spend 50/11 hours on your hair! With the kids, the husband, school, the projects, meetings and just life….sometimes we just do not have the time.
Is it too much to ask to visit a salon every week or every two weeks if we can afford it. If you think there aren’t women not keeping up that ritual you are mistaken.
Some of us like those little 5 minute massages we get at the shampoo bowl, we love breaking away from it all for some girl chat and we love the fresh to death results of just leaving the salon.
Some stylists have gotten a bad rap with the natural hair movement, but I think we have all come to a point where we are all about education, working together for the greater good, healthy and in many cases long hair.
The other day one of my favorite you-tubers admitted that with her new job she is going to the salon more often and loving it, so if this is actually a thing then how can you ensure your health and growth goals are still maintained?
Your salon regimen should be an amped up version of your regimen, meaning the basics should be covered, cleanse, moisturize, strengthen and style and then some.
If you plan to visit the salon regularly do not hesitate to be armed with a plan, your plan should be clear, your stylist should be on board and you should see results. With that said here is what your salon regimen should look like for healthy, growing hair:
1. Cleansing for growth and health
If your stylists uses a sulfate shampoo for a majority of her clients be aware that she will use one on your hair as well. You need to consider how often your hair is shampooed and if sulfates are used on a weekly basis then you must also deep condition or steam on a weekly basis, that simple.
By cleansing your and massaging your scalp well, your stylist will help you to keep your scalp healthy which is the foundation for great growth and healthy hair.
Focus on the product she is using and ensure than she knows you like her technique while shampooing, many of us love for those massages.
2. Moisture for health
If you go to the salon weekly then you are very familiar with the technology they have available for infusing moisture in your strands. Many salons have old fashion dryers that if your hair is loaded with conditioner and covered with a plastic cap can deep condition your hair well.
Other salons have state of the art steamers that are used on your hair every time you visit. The thing with natural hair care is that more than likely your stylist with opt to soften the hair in this manner so that detangling is easier and your hair can maintain its moisture throughout the week.
If detangling is easier for your stylist, you will keep more hair on your head. And, if your hair is very well moisturized you can retain more length.
Please note that there is some sort of confusion on whether you want to steam every time you visit the salon, ensure that is very clear so that you hair does not miss the opportunity.
