Years ago when I first started my natural hair journey I used to say that my hair was sort of my alter ego. She was rebellious and I was laid back, she did what she wanted and I liked to follow the rules.
Of course you will tell me that I am crazy and that nobody talks to their hair, well if you think I am the only one I promise you I am not and if you are honest enough you will also admit that you talk to your hair too.
So where am I going with this? Well I thought I would share with you (for fun) the sort of conversation I think I would have with my hair. Knowing “her” for as long as I have this is probably what it would be like on any given night!
Me : How was your day?
Her: Big
Me: What does that mean?
Her: Well I noticed last night you had me slicked down, added layers and layers of liquids and oil – BTW I think you have an illness of some sort, the blogs are calling it ‘junkyism’ trying to make it sound like it isn’t as bad as it actually is…..but I digress. Obviously with all of that ‘work’ you thought I would have ‘behaved’ this morning. Did you check your iPhone?
Me: Seriously, what are you talking about?
Her: The frizz dear, the almighty frizz…. if you had bothered to check your weather app you would have noticed the high due points and the fact that ain’t no Shea Moisture* conditioning cream or fancy oil gonna make me do what you want me to do. I laugh in the face of your futile attempts!
Me: I noticed! No need to name drop, this has nothing to do with Shea Moisture*, this is about you and your stubborn ways and the fact that I constantly have to carry scrunchi reinforcements in my purse.
Her: I’m offended!…..Stubborn? Me? What I am love…is my own ‘person’, I do not take kindly to your efforts at making me conform to societal standards.
Now all is not lost, you have some great qualities. For instance, I love that you protect me at night I am still not quite sure where you learned about the luxury of silk and satin because obviously I will accept nothing less. I love spa day on Sunday and fancy fro day on Fridays, but you still have a lot to learn about Black Curl Magic.

Why did you cover me up for long. Your kinky hair gives you energy from the sun. I would say I’m sorry never will happen again.
