5 Things I Want To Do To Give My Hair A Fresh Start In 2016

As the new year approaches it’s only expected that in will come the new years resolutions and goal settings. I typically make my own personal life goals so why not apply the same for my hair!

My 2016 Hair Goals:

1. Get my first professional trim

Since deciding to give up relaxers in December of 2013 I have not stepped foot into a salon. All my trims, colors, and styling have been a result of my own hands. I would like to get a professional trim and reshape my fro once it grows out a little more.

2. No hair dye

I’m currently on a quest to building healthy hair and although with proper hair maintenance you can have healthy colored hair, I am taking a vow that I will go through 2016 without lightening my hair. I had my natural hair dyed blonde on the top portion since the beginning of my journey. I can definitely say it plays a part in drying so let’s see if I notice a big change in the appearance of my hair by saying no hair dye.

3. No heat until July

6 months, no heat. I’m not going to touch a flat iron to my strands and straighten it until my 27th birthday in July. Mainly because I fear heat damage and with more growth the longer it will be when I straighten it.

4. No comparing my hair to others

I know I’m guilty of comparing the length and curl pattern of my own to those of other naturals who I’ve been  watching on their own journey as well. I need to get out of being envious of another girl’s looser curl pattern or the fact that my wash n’ gos don’t turn out like that of my favorite YouTubers. In doing this I lose confidence in myself so for 2016 I’m focusing on no comparisons.

5. Growth, Growth, Growth!

No more scissors! After chopping my hair plenty of times in the last year to keep my tapered shape I’m finally growing out my full fro.

I find myself looking back at old photos occasionally and miss my tapered cut but I’m staying strong and will allow my hair to fully flourish in 2016. Maximize that growth!

What are some things you plan to do to give you a fresh start in 2016?
