I have watched Tameka otherwise know as MeechyMunroe for a long time, so naturally when I saw her story last night, I had a mixture of emotions, mostly sad if I were to be completely honest. I quickly corrected that because I know what Meechy needs more than ever now is strength and happiness.
So far on Instagram and other social media outlets we have seen an out pouring of love and get well wishes and we wanted to add to that. This is what makes our community special, we connect with each other as women and when it really counts, we go hard when one of us needs support.
Meechy is so gorgeous, so amazing, always professional and if you came across her videos on YouTube there is no point in not subscribing to her channel because you will be in for a treat. Recently Meechy was diagnosed with a rare form of brain cancer, here is a snippit of her story and diagnosis:
Meechy began sharing her natural hair journey with her, now, thousands of online subscribers and followers in the Fall of 2010. Her goal has always been to help others along their self-seeking quests by way of inspiration and countless step-by-step online video tutorials for hair care and styling.
She and her sister, MsVaughnTV, have honed themselves a natural hair duo called “The Monroe Sisters” having traveled together all over the United States and parts of Europe sharing their enthusiasm around embracing the beauty of natural hair.
Meechy’s momentum was cut short on May 31, 2014 when she was diagnosed with a rare sarcoma (or vascular cancerous tumor) in her brain. The tumor caused Meechy to suffer multiple mild strokes, which have led to certain physical and speech challenges including an Aphasia diagnosis (a disturbance of the delivery of language – not at all linked to a loss of intelligence).
Her story is described in more detail in her video below, and after a couple of surgeries she is on her way to recovery. Meechy is strong, she has donated her hair to locks of love and needs our support with anything we can give. Whether it be a donation, an email, a prayer, words of encouragement anything we can do to support our sister during this time.
If Meechy reads this we would like her to know that we love her, we are here for her and though we know she is in great hands she is always in our thoughts. If you are interested in sending a donation towards Meechy’s medical bills then hit this link –> #getwellmeechy . If you would like to hear Meechy’s story then watch the video below and read her open letter here.
We wish Tameka a speedy recovery and we hope to see her on youtube very soon.
