Trust us when we say do not get caught up in the dream, resist the dream and take care of your hair underneath, there is nothing worse than removing your installs to find your actual hair shriveled up in a fetal position.
►Budget
Now this is a so-so con. Why? Because if you do your weaves or crochet braids yourself then your costs will be cut significantly. If you go to a salon to get your protective style done the price can range from $150-$300 dollars, possibly more, depending on your style, the hair, and the stylist.
If you cant do it yourself the exorbitant prices will make it hard to have your hair redone every 8 weeks. With that said, this con is totally in your hands.
Like we mentioned before it is very difficult to do a post like this without looking at the pros and cons of wearing a weave vs crotchet braids individually so lets go:
Weave Pros
►Can be used over and over again
A weave trumps crochet braids every time with the fact that weave hair can be reused over and over again and can actually last up to a year from the date that you installed it. The only thing your need to watch about this is that this only works if you take care of your install and have great quality hair as well.
Weave Cons
►Good Quality Hair Costs
Yes in order to have the above benefit you will have to buy great quality hair. The thing is the price of quality hair can put a pretty dent in your pocket because that kind of hair can costs a few hundred dollars.
This is definitely a case of you cant have your cake and eat it too so if you plan on wearing your weave a few times within the next year then the cost is totally worth it.
Crochet Braid Pros
►Cheap
The cool thing about crochet braids is that the cost of hair is very low. Obviously if you are paying exorbitant prices for an install then the over all cost might not be too cheap. But if you are doing your braids yourself, the hair can cost from as low as $2.00 to $9.99 depending on your beauty supply store.
►Gives you many parting options
Depending on your cornrow pattern, you can easily show parts anywhere on your head which can give a realistic feel to your braids. Since crochet braids are based on individual strands of hair being placed on the cornrows, it allows for natural looking parts this is a big benefit over weaves.
Crochet Braid Cons
►Strands Strands Everywhere
There aren’t too many cons with crochet braids but one of the biggest cons is that since you are individually knotting in your hair it leaves free reign for the strands to make it rain, sorry couldn’t help myself. This can be pretty annoying but if you choose voluminous hair for your braids then you can conceal the shedding.

I’ve done both weaves and crochet braids. Im a cheap person when it comes to weaves so I’ve never paid more than 50 for hair and 50 for someone to do it. And the only reason I paid that much was because it was my first prom. Also I didn’t reuse the hair but crochet braids sometimes i reuse the hair afterward depending on what the hair looks like.
I had latch-hook braids which is basically the same thing and I loved if. It wasn’t as harsh to my hair and it looked great. I was in High school when I got it. it really helped my hair grow cause my hands weren’t in it. I prefer it over weaves.
Who else? <3
Smashing
I prefer crochet braids over sew in. With crochet braids I still have the ability to oil my scalp. Also, I can wear my braids down, put them in a bun or pull some of my braids up. By the time I’m bored, its time to take them down…there’s more flexibility with crochet braids.
