Vernon François wants to change the way people all around the world react to natural hair, from curly to dreadlocked, braided, wavy, coily, frizzy and kinky*. On 12th September, the prominent English-born hairstylist launched his eponymous hair care collection with a full range of products catering to virtually every hair type except straight hair.
He explained that his main reason for developing the Vernon François hair collection is because of a massive lack of knowledge in natural hair. He has never been satisfied with the hair care products in the market; most professionals and companies assume that natural hair is all the same and typically offer one product meant to be a catch-all. Because of this, François would often make his own products, combining water with mashed avocados and coconut oil*.
His collection has three main types: Re-Vamp, for damaged, chemically or heat treated hair; Curl-Command, for loose and wavy curly hair; and Pure Fro, for kinky*, tightly coiled and dense hair. He offers moisture spray, a shampoo, and conditioner, along with silk scarves*, co-wash, a lightweight serum and other styling tools and products.
François, a natural redhead, was born and grew up in Huddersfield, England. He started learning about hair and experimenting with it when he was just 8. He was never satisfied with the way his mother did his hair, so she challenged him to do it himself. With that, he learned how to do twists, locs and more. At age 14, he became a professional hair stylist.
His passion and experience have allowed him to work with some of the biggest names in the entertainment industry, including the stellar actress, Lupita Nyong’o. He has styled her hair for awards shows, campaigns, film premieres and even a safari. He has also worked with Uzo Aduba, Kerry Washington, Karrueche Tran, Danai Gurira, Tracee Ellis Ross and more.
Vernon François’ products are available on his website and Net-A-Porter.
She needs a new stylist I actually saw him using a clothing iron to do her hair. He’s too conceited and doesn’t know a thing about hair let alone style hers.
