Is Nicki trying to change her image or is it just me? I’m sure she is still the feisty Trini we all know and love but her latest pictures on Instagram show a toned down version of the Barbie rapper.
We love the dark hair top knot bun thing she has going on and even though we do not talk about makeup much around here we can appreciate her more natural “low makeup” look too.
She captioned her photograph by saying
No perm. No extensions!
This is typically the theme of this sort of thing, so color me not surprised. The last time Nicki posted a picture of her hair, there were naysayers calling foul because they could not see her face, well this time she released images of her pulling her ponytail upwards and close ups of her edges while facing forward. Chances are she will still have doubters, which quite frankly doesn’t matter because she looks great!
Yesterday we had a discussion about Gabby Union’s picture of her natural hair which has held up pretty well under her permanent weaves* and extensions* but it would appear that Nicki’s results have been even better. Just glancing at the comments a lot of women actually don’t care if a woman wears a weave or not, one commenter even said that it shouldn’t even be a debate and I tend to agree!
While celeb pictures of their real hair are only borderline interesting we can’t help but wonder why is there a need to show off natural hair in the first place? Here is are my thoughts:
Some people like to say that extensions* make them feel glamorous, and they can change their look with a few extra dollars and a great hair stylist. But after years of wearing them, will you suddenly have the urge to promote what is real underneath it all? I am no psychologist but chances are you will because somehow that is only natural!
Whether you are a celebrity or not there will come a time when you will want to go naked, and face yourself in the mirror. So the conclusion is yes, it definitely doesn’t matter if you wear a weave, a wig*, winged eyeliner, or whatever it takes for you to face the world.
But at some point you will have the urge to show you and only the “real” you. This isn’t a bad thing, it’s actually refreshing so keep the pics coming ladies, we will be right there to show support.
