Evelyn from the Internets dyed a portion of her hair blue, as a matter of fact she isn’t the only one. It is quite trendy for many naturals to dye their hair using colors that are not very typical or day to day.
We have seen rain forest green, purple is pretty popular, pink is another fun one and of course platinum blonde which is an oldie but goodie. We talk about color all the time here on BHI, the good, the bad and the ugly, we support change as long as it is safe for your hair.
Speaking of safe, have you ever wondered what makes a dye vegan? Evelyn used Manic Panic which is typically sold at Sallys and is described as a vegan dye that conditions hair. That brand is the most popular brand used by women who want a very dramatic color change but we were still baffled by the ‘vegan claim’.
When a company claims that their product is vegan, it simply means that the product has not been tested on animals and is cruelty free. There are some dyes that are harsher than others that contain ingredients that do not add to the health of your hair but can destroy it. Even when the product says it is vegan it is important that you still check the ingredients to make sure that you know what exactly the dye contains.
For me henna* is truly the most vegan hair dye because it is derived naturally and is of course cruelty free. If you are interested in coloring your hair and you want to find a product that is vegan you should ensure that you say that in your search. Additionally research each ingredient and finally look at reviews. Check out Evelyn’s blue hues in the below video:
