I’ve heard so many times that the best part about being natural is working out without the worry of sweating your hair out. Well I guess my hair didn’t get the memo because as a 3C/4A natural with high porosity short hair, working out causes my hair to shrink and frizz.
As an avid runner and someone who actually enjoys working out, giving up fitness was not an option so how did I combat it?
Well I’m so glad you asked! I have developed a hair regimen as well as fixes for both morning and evening workouts.
Morning Workouts
If you are someone who enjoys working out in the morning before you get the day started but still want your hair to look fresh for the day, this section is for you.
One way is to style prep your hair the night before. If you are a twist out girl this is perfect.
Twist your hair up at night and don’t take your twist out before you workout. I know you feel like you look crazy but throw a hat on if you are afraid of looking too unkempt. I personally do without the hat because I sweat more in my head and a hat causes even more moisture.
After your workout, simply blow dry your twists under a cool setting, apply a little of your favorite oil to your fingertips and take your hair down.
Another option is a wash n’ go. I don’t recommend washing your hair ever day due to the possibility of drying out your hair (I typically wash my hair twice a week which I’ll get into later).
Based on your workout routine if you do 3 days a week, MWF for example, on Wednesday after your workout do a quick wash and go before heading out to work. You may want to allow a little extra time because we know that wash n’ gos are more like wash n’ do a bunch of defining, drying and then going haha.
Another option is to do the wash n’ go the night before and just working out the next morning. Typically this style can hold up by just putting on a bonnet or pineappling at night and some sweat from working out won’t hurt it.

These are great suggestions.
I only recently cut off my relaxed hair andand have only been pacticng yoga, which in the tropics can seem like aa cardio workout, no hot studio needed. Although i don’t usually sweat in my head, I will consider these as my hair grows. And I definitely will share with others.
