3. Styling- Now towards the end of the conditioning session, he starts to explain the how to’s on keeping the curl pattern that you have when your hair is wet. Now for most of us, our curl pattern when wet can differ from our curl pattern when its dry. He goes on saying that by applying your leave- in on sopping wet hair is the key to “locking” in your texture of sorts.
My Opinion: Now I have to admit, when he first mentioned that you can lock in your wet hair pattern, I was like…huh, no way! But the results spoke for itself.
In the video the final results looked great; there was definition, movement, and shine compared to her Wash ‘n’ Go from before. It seems like a complete turnaround from the beginning of the session, where it seem to lack some of the results that she experienced after the session.
Here is Anthony Dickey demonstrating his method in the video below; check it out!
I liked that throughout the video, Anthony Dickey said that you did not necessarily have to use the same products that he used. You can use any products that work for your hair, but just make sure that you apply large amounts of whatever hair product you use to your hair.
The thing that might bring a few side eyes is that the Anthony Dickey Method is very similar, if not the same kind of routine that we all are more than familiar with: wash, condition, styler or leave in, and then style hair as you desire. So it might not be his method so to speak, but rather something he has perfected.
Another thing we should make note of is that using large amounts of product might not work for everyone, so it is still important to know what your hair can take. If you have fine hair for instance, you may prefer lighter products with heavy application. Or if your hair is coarse you might not mind heavy products.
Additionally, if you use alot of product, be wary of product buildup. Therefore, using shampoo is a must if you experience this by the time you finish wearing your style.
We say give the method a shot to judge for yourself on whether this method is worth it or not, or if you just prefer to do the wash and go your old way. Either way, we want to know, would you try it? Or is this just more of the same stuff, just wrapped in a different package?

I love how he said products is only 20-30% and how it’s the technique that you need to do hair. Too many people are looking for that one miracle product.

Yes, it will work on 4c hair, just know that it defines your natural curl pattern. So your wash and go will have much more shrinkage that someone with a loser pattern, but you will see curls.

I tried this method…my curls were defined but my hair is sooooo thick I realized I’m still not comfortable wearing my hair out so big. Plus the front and back of my hair’s curl pattern is totally different – so the back of my hair was beautiful but the front I ended up putting in flat twist. Also, by the end of the day – the back of my hair is so tangled. I think in order for me to wear it all out – I need a really good cut in the front.

So I tried it this morning and wow!!!!! Love it. This is my second wash and go. The first one I had to wash it out because nothing happened. Loving this!!!! Thank you guys for a great post.
Oh I used As I AM Coconut Cowash then Oyin handmade Hair dew as my leave in and then oyin Handmade as my styler. The photo shows the leave in and styler in while still wet. My hair is currently about 70% dry.

I use this method for my wash and gos and I LOVE it. I’m so happy I found out about it. I have 4B/4C hair and at the beginning of summer I decided to follow a wash and go-only regimen. This is because I love how my hair looks in wash and gos, and I reallyyy love getting my hair wet. With twist outs, I struggle to go for a full week without wetting my hair, and after a few days of my twist out, it loses the style, anyways. So I’ve found wash and gos to be a quick, beautiful alternative! This method has helped me cut my styling time and product use tremendously by styling my hair in the shower.

Stumbled pon a youtube video of him doing the wash & go on a girl with 4c hair. I have high porosity 4c hair and have been natural for most of my life but I usually keep my hair cut very very short. I remember trying to achieve a wash n go style in the past when growing out my hair and it never came out nice – just an ugly, shrunken crunchy afro. After watching a lot of youtubers do DIY wash n go tutorials and salon visits, his was the first that I saw that applied a lot of product on soaking wet hair in the same way he applied the conditioner. I had really never seen a video of anyone with 4c hair doing that. Most people usually got down washing their hair, maybe towel dried it a little then raked the product through their hair. So last night I tried the wash n go method the way Anthony outlines in his video and it really did work. The idea of locking in the “wet curl pattern” compared to a partial dry curl pattern is definitely real. I dried it under my portable drier because I didn’t want to risk the gel not setting properly by air drying (didn’t want to go to school & work with an ugly, crunchy fro). My hair has never looked this good by just washing and putting in some gel. And it’s maintained a cute curl all day. I did have to stretch my hair a little to get that stiffness out but that’s ok. I’m going to see how many days this one wash and go can last. Just when I was getting so annoyed about what to do with my hair and tempted to cut it all off again I finally have a new styling success. Now I won’t have to only wear twist outs and fros..
