4c Hair Chick is really gonna get me to break down and get one of these things! In this video she demonstrates how she detangles her 4C hair the easy way week to week with the use of a Q-Redew steamer* and we thought it would be awesome to share.
Detangling is almost always the most disastrous part of taking care of our natural hair especially when the hair is dry, matted and desperately needs to be washed. Type 4 hair has tight curls with 4c being the tightest curls of all the categories of hair and the strands naturally attract each other causing tangles and matting if you leave it too long untouched.
We really think using the Q-redew* as a steamer* and detangler is a genius idea because as you will hear her mention, it doesn’t wet the hair but softens it making it more pliable, soft, tangle free and just amazing before you wash your hair.
In the video she adds twists to each section once she is done and then she washes her hair in those twists without unraveling keeping her detangled hair intact prior to styling. That makes life a whole lot easier in my opinion.
Do we think the Q-redew as a detangler is better than finger detangling?
This might be a tossup because you are running a contraption through some tight curls, but every demonstration of the gadget shows it moving through the hair with ease with no noticeable snags or issues as it glides along. Not to mention that because the ‘prongs’ (is that what they are called?) are pretty far apart mimicking the distance between your fingers anyway.
I definitely think it would be a viable alternative to using your hands since it cuts down on the time spent finger detangling and on top of it you get a great steam session in before you shampoo your hair.
Our advice?
Knowing that the detangling session is where you are most likely to experience breakage, do what works for you; we suggest trying a couple different detangling methods until you figure out the best one for you.
Maybe using the Q-redew* will work, maybe it won’t but if you do not try you will never know. Other options include finger detangling as we mentioned before, detangling with the shower stream running through your hair, with your hair saturated with conditioner or just dampening your hair with water and oil and using a wide tooth comb*.
Tell us below what works for you and your curls!
I always start by pre-pooing my 4c hair w/ Hello Hydration Conditioner. After that sits for 1-2 hrs, I take my wide tooth comb and fingers and detangle it, part it into 4 sections then wash it. Pre-pooing and detangling b4 I wash it does wonders 4 my hair and makes the rest of the process very easy!!
Where can I get this product… I’ve been trying kinky-curly
Do a Google search. Amazon probably sells it, or try going to the company’s website.
