Gel is a natural girl’s best friend when it comes to defining your natural curl pattern and making it long lasting and frizz free. It took me a while to find gels that I actually liked, but now I have a couple that are always under my counter and are used for various styles. Here are my top 5 must have curl defining gels:
This gel is very popular in the natural community. Not only is it super affordable, but it works great! It’s especially good for wash and gos, and I learned that less is more because it has a tendency to make your hair crunchy when it dries.
2. Camile Rose Natural’s Curl Maker
I love this gel! It can be used for wash n gos, if you don’t want the crunchy feeling that eco styler gel* leaves, but it doesn’t get my curls as defined as the Eco Styler* does. I use this gel for my twist outs. The only downside about this is the price tag, it is currently $22 at Target.
3. Design Essential’s Coconut and Monoi Curl Defining Gelee
This gel smells yummy and is a light weight gel that can be used for twist outs or wash n gos. The bottle isn’t very big, so I use this gel sparingly.
4. Deva Curl Light Defining Gel
This is a light hold moisturizing and defining gel. Dissolves instantly when applied to wet hair and dries forming a moisture-protective cast to enhance curls. I recently started using this on my wash and gos, and so far so good, I really like it!
5.Shea Moisture Curling Gel Souffle
This is the very first defining gel that I tried out when I started my natural journey, and it is definitely a staple! I love this gel because it has great hold, and can be used interchangeably for wash and gos or twist outs. It’s also very affordable and can be found anywhere!
What are your favorite gels?
I can swear by #2 & #5
Best gel ever home made flaxseed gel.
I love #1 especially the new coconut oil one, but I still wanna try #4 & #5. Another not mentioned is the IC Fantasia Thick & Shine gel
#2 is very good, I’m gonna try my favorite (mix chicks)
#2 is $22 but it is the best I’ve tried!!! Really great product
I’m not a fan of the green eco and the Shea Moisture soufflé.
I also like king kurly gel.
Aunt Jackie’s flaxseed does it for me and grows my hair at the same time. I have noticed an improvement of my hair line which was dead and gone
As I am curling jelly is my new fave, I live in Florida where humidity is 200% and my profile picture is from the end of the day. Thee end of the day and my curls were still poppin
I love #1
Look at #3 on that list.
