I think the point being made is, that young Black girls have naturally long hair, I don’t think that her mom lets her go around like this, than I could be wrong………just my opinion…..
But what would be wrong with her “going around like this”?
None Black girls “go around like this”, all day, every day.
Why do some Black people lose their minds over loose hair?
It’s not weave. It’s not dyed. It’s not in a bizarre cut.
I agree with Tammie Faulkner Taylor if my daughter hair was this long I’d definitely let it hang but only on the weekends it would be to much during school
That’s nice Yolanda. That’s YOUR choice, correct?
Nowhere have I said that Black girls with long hair SHOULD wear their hair loose.
I simply addressed this weird, bizarre and rather unfounded issue that some Black people seem to have with Black girls wearing THEIR OWN long hair loose. And 99% of the time it accompanies a “too grown ” justification. And STILL , no one has yet to explain why the same people that say it’s “too grown ” don’t bat an eyelash @ a non Black girl with her hair loose.
Nothing more, nothing less.
And I’ll bet the farm that no one with that “it’s too grown for Black girls, but not non Black girls.”, mindset is going to explain.
Because it has no basis.
Just another way we criticize our own, without any logical justification . Period
I dont have non black kids. But why compare to them our hair is different from their hair. I dont even wear my hair out cause it gets tangles and knots.
Her hair is hanging from her scalp the way God intended, in its natural state.
Yet some will still find an issue. We black people are our own worse enemy sometimes.
I agree with you Tammie and I think it’s due to the fact that “society” has historically portrayed black women as over and hyper sexual. Even though we know this isn’t the case, we ourselves are sometimes quick to tar each other with that brush, even our young girls.
Who said it was to grown? Her hair looks straightened so it not in its natural state js if i was curly it would be cool but straight you asking for trouble and im pretty sure she doesn’t wear her hair like this on a daily basis
Markisha Tingle, I’m not “asking for trouble “.
If you ,or anyone else would like to sit here and pretend that they’ve never seen/heard, ” That looks too grown “, comments towards /on a little Black girl with her own long hair worn straight, then you knock yourself out. Lol
Like I just made up something that no one has ever heard of. Lol
And IMO, the people that are responding are either :
A. Can’t understand it, either.
B. The exact people that are guilty of it and are “hit dogs ” that are hollering.
Tammie Faulkner Taylor you know they used to sexualize black women on the plantations. They would say that we were naturally promiscuous and craved sex. They used this as their excuse for raping us. As a defense mechanism black women would try and do things to make themselves less attractive ESPECIALLY after puberty. This included not wearing their hair down. Makes me wonder of that’s why we’re conditioned to think that wearing hair down is “grown”.
I think the real question is…why are you comparing “non black girls hair” and black girls hair? ?
Like..you’re literally contradicting yourself in these comments. Little white girls (let’s be honest, you don’t have to say it in quotations ) hair amd black girls hair are not the same! So who cares if people think she looks to grown? Its not about comparing her to anyone else, so why start the conversation leading to comparisons? And this little girls hair probably isn’t like this all the time because it WILL get matted more than a “non black persons” hair because newsflash: not all hair acts the same way…but im sure you knew that.
Thanks Jamila Kelly, for not offering anything to the subject that I brought up ,even though multiple other people are commenting that they’ve noticed and have been puzzled by the the same thing. Lol
Sooooooo, again.
The people that are responding likely fit into the two categories that I described.
A. Don’t understand the bias.
B. Are the ones with the bias, but have no logical justification, therefore they are bothered that someone dare ask
^^ I don’t think she gets why the comparison is made. When black ppl see white/Asian/Hispanic children with their hair down they don’t think its “grown”. When black children wear their hair down its considered “grown”.
Yes, I get exactly what u are trying to say. They’re always calling our children grown for wearing their hair out in its natural state. In reality they are letting it hang freely. They weren’t born with hair bows, head bands etc.
Yall are a mess who is sexualizing a child? Seem like your messy and petty i dont even straighten mybkids hair and wearing it down is something i will pay for later. What is wrong with you calm down and click like
Ronisha Newton-Clemons, it’s pointless.
Like I said, the people getting their panties in a bunch are the ones doing it, have no real reason for doing it, and are feeling some type of way that it’s being discussed.
No other reason to be bothered by it. At all. Lol
Yall are very petty nobody said anything about her looking grown cause she doesn’t. Trying to maintain straight hair on black kids is hard for 1 running around is going to make her poof up and tangle and get knotted up white people or other races dont have kinky hair or hair that has to be straightened. If her hair was in its natural state then thats cool
Its obvious this child hair is not naturally straight if anyone listened to you the child hair would have fell out cause it would need to manipulated daily to keep this style
Ok dear ????? Tammie Faulkner Taylor don’t explain nothing else ? I see that she doesn’t get it. The fact that she’s bringing up textures and all that other stuff shows that she really as no idea what ur trying to say. Just let it go lol
Why even bother listening to some idiot who wants to make an issue about what they think someone else’s hair should look like? It’s a personal choice. A non issue. This young lady is beautiful and so is her hair. If it’s not what you would choose, then don’t choose it for yourself. In the meantime, grow up and leave other people to their own choices. If all you can find to get worked up about in this world is someone else’s hairstyle, you have your work cut out for you.
@ Tammie Faulkner Taylor i agree!! I have 3 daughters and ive straightened my oldest daughters natural hair once and never did it again for that reason in particular. People seem to think that a child looks grown for wearing their own hair down…i dont get it..??
This is my daughter my firsts born. Her hair has been thick, long and sandy from birth. No chemicals or heat. Straight genetics.. Thank u all for your comments. #blessings
I wanted a boy, so I don’t have to do all that hair, abd he ended uo growing his to almost this length. Damn damn damn!! I was so glad when he joined ROTC. LOL
That is nice hair! All hers! Now I see why my son or daughter in law do not allow you to put the things that, where used on my hair when I was young! My hair was long, but so much happen to it! Blessing good job!
Beautiful little girl. We all can have long hair if you want it , you just have to take care of it . I get tired of people suggesting that we can’t grow long hair. That’s just silly.
Ok 1. All hair grows about 3 to 6 in a year it’s retaining the length that is the issue.
2. All black hair is not “rough”. We have all textures. Mine is a cottony soft 3c 4a mix.
4. There are plenty of grown black women with shoulder, mid back and tailbone length hair.
Beautiful hair! She is so beautiful. Don’t ever put harmful chemicals in her hair. Teach her to love and appreciate her hair. There are so many great products for natural hair now a days. Rock that hair baby, rock it! It looks great!
That’s very nice
Beautiful, that’s definitely a full time job!
Her mother has her hands full!
Beautiful
Awww! #babyhairgoals
ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL! Just a cutie pie!
Honey!! I need a second job to get her hair washed! Beautiful
*prays no one says she “looks too grown”*
Because they can NEVER explain why non Black girls don’t look “too grown ” with long, straight hair.
Exactly what I was thinking. I’m so tired of people saying that!
Cause its going to get in her way and tangled
If it was a fro it would be easier
Does non Black girls hair “get in their way”?
And even if it did, that’s her mother’s problem, no? Lol
I agree with Tammie Faulkner Taylor if my daughter hair was this long I’d definitely let it hang but only on the weekends it would be to much during school
My daughters have long hair and no they don’t go around like this just special occasions majority of the time it’s braids and beads
I dont have non black kids. But why compare to them our hair is different from their hair. I dont even wear my hair out cause it gets tangles and knots.
And difference in culture and upbringing geez
Then we’re obviously not discussing what I asked. I asked why is it only considered “too grown ” when it’s Black girls.
And still no answer, soooooo.
Her hair is hanging from her scalp the way God intended, in its natural state.
Yet some will still find an issue. We black people are our own worse enemy sometimes.

Yessss queen I swear you just read my mind. I was about to write something along these lines but now I don’t have to ?
Markisha Tingle, I’m not “asking for trouble “.

Maybe its US who are sexualizing these children and making it seem grown.
I think the real question is…why are you comparing “non black girls hair” and black girls hair? ?

^^ I don’t think she gets why the comparison is made. When black ppl see white/Asian/Hispanic children with their hair down they don’t think its “grown”. When black children wear their hair down its considered “grown”.
Thanks Ronisha Newton-Clemons, you’re contributing some thoughts/notions to the subject that I *gasp* dare raised in my “starting trouble “.
Yes, I get exactly what u are trying to say. They’re always calling our children grown for wearing their hair out in its natural state. In reality they are letting it hang freely. They weren’t born with hair bows, head bands etc.

How bout you do what the hell you want with YOUR own kids!!!
??????????? I can tell it went RIGHT over her head. She’s not grasping what you’re trying to say at all????????????
Ronisha Newton-Clemons, it’s pointless.
Like I said, the people getting their panties in a bunch are the ones doing it, have no real reason for doing it, and are feeling some type of way that it’s being discussed.
