I tried to do it with hair similar to this and my knots kept coming undone.
in the tutorial at 2:14- 2:20 it went by pretty quickly but you will notice that i did a knot after pulling thru the hair. Thats another way you can secure the hair. If you need me to upload a video explaining ways to secure crochet curls…. I will be happy do so 🙂 …. Leave a comment under the video if you are still not sure 🙂

honestly…. almost any type of hair can be used to do crochet… the most commonly used are hair used for braiding without a weft…. I would explore all websites that sell hair 🙂
