My Hair Story – Dannielle Watson

Hair Story1. Introduce Yourself
I am Dannielle pronounced ‘Dan-eel’ a 20- something-year-old natural hair enthusiast from the beautiful island of Jamaica.

2. Are you relaxed, natural, texturized or texlaxed?
I am currently fully natural.

3. What’s your story, how did you get to where you are?
My hair was relaxed since the age of 13. I recently made the decision to return to my natural tresses when I realized that my hair did not like relaxers.

During my relaxed days, my hair was only healthy when I visited the stylist every week or two to wash and deep condition. Failing this my hair would begin to break after reaching a certain length.

I began to wonder why I needed to depend on a stylist for the health of the hair I was born with and decided that it was time for me to take matters into my own hands. I transitioned for 7 months and did my big chop on December 31, 2015. I am now 9 months natural and loving it!

4. What is your typical weekly regimen?
I’m a wash and go kinda girl . I have not mastered other styles like twist outs and braid outs etc just yet so I’ve decided to give my hair some time to grow. I co wash at least twice a week and style my hair when it’s dripping wet in the shower.I try to deep condition at the end of each week.

5. Are you happy with your progress so far?
I am extremely happy with my progress although I will admit that some days my hair does not cooperate. I have come to understand that my hair has its own personality and sometimes I just need to let it do as it pleases.

6. What’s your signature style?
My signature style has to be my wash and go mohawk. It is pretty easy since all it requires is a few pins or hair combs on each side.

7. How do you ensure that your ends are protected from the elements and your hands?
Since I do mostly wash and go’s my ends are always exposed. I ensure that I moisturize my ends daily and cover my entire head at nights with my satin bonnet. I will admit that it is difficult not to touch my hair but I try to keep the touching to a minimum.

8. Do you have a goal length or are you more concerned about the health of your hair?
I believe that with health will come length and so at this stage I am more focused on understanding my hair and what it needs to stay healthy.

9. Is there anything that you hair hates?
I don’t believe my hair likes oils very much. I have tried the LOC method to seal in moisture but it does nothing for my hair. I will say though that oils work beautifully for hot oil treatments.

10. Do you have any favorite hair products?

Right now i’m loving the leave-in conditioning repair cream by Cantu! Aussie Moist and Tresseme Naturals are two of my favorite conditioners and I absolutely love the Creme of Nature Style and Shine Foaming Mousse for my perm rod sets.
