8. You are using harsh chemicals in your hair
Chemicals are bad news so ensure you note which ones are counter-productive to hair growth and steer clear of them.
Relaxers applied for too long is arguably the biggest reason why black women never reach their hair length potential.
Always err on the side of caution by under processing your hair by texlaxing or texturizing instead of relaxing bone straight if you choose to relax at all.
When it comes to hair color, ensure that you are getting it done by a professional and follow a sensible protocol for ensuring that you maintain your hair’s strength while you continue to color.
9. You are trying to outgrow breakage with hair growth supplements* instead of trying to retain length
There will always be a rave about new and seemingly magical supplements that aid hair growth. But here’s the deal; hair will still grow regardless of hair supplements, perhaps at a slower rate, but it will grow anyway.
Depending on the supplements that you use to grow out your hair, you could lure yourself into a sense of false security. In essence you could be neglecting other maintenance measures that would aid retention because you feel that supplements* will make your hair grow faster to cover the length lost to breakage.
Not so, outgrowing breakage is actually the end goal of any good hair regimen but it is rarely achieved by taking supplements* alone.
10.The tools you use are doing more harm than good
Perhaps you just need to lay off that brush – Denman included! It could be that the tools or accessories you use contribute to breakage by snagging your hair or weakening the strands overtime through continued use. Use combs and brushes less and opt for finger detangling. Alternatively pick better styling tools like wider tooth and seamless combs*.
In Conclusion…
I understand that all this is quite a lot to take in and if you are at a hair length plateau right now you are probably thinking that you have to go back to the drawing board. But don’t be too discouraged, at least you had a game plan just run a different play!
Have you experienced a length plateau and how did you address the problem?
At a plateau. Been at the same plateau for over 20 years.
My cousin actually is friends with a girl who has been natural longer than me and her and is stuck at shoulder length almost natural for 5 years . I’m only a year natural my cousin is about 3 years natural and my cousin hair is longer than hers hers is past her shoulders with shrinkage and almost bra strap length when straightened . BELIEVE it Or NOT THAT GIRL MY Cousins FRIEND tried To GIVE Me HAIR advice. The reason she is stuck at that actually is only because she goes to the salon and constantly gets IT flat ironed once a week .
