Chime Edwards recently posted a video titled “My TMS experience 1 year later”. In the video she talks about the texture damage she sustained after using the popular Texture Management System created and marketed by Beautiful Textures.
I remember when this product launched, it was a big deal because the company promised the best of both worlds. You could get silky straight hair that lasted up to 6 weeks and with a simple clarify you would have your curls back sans heat damage.
Now women can have the hair versatility they want without harsh chemicals and without permanently altering their curl pattern.
Whatever your hair texture – curly, kinky*-coily, wavy or frizzy – the Reversible™ Straightening Texture Manageability™ System (TMS) allows you to go from natural curls to straight styles and back again. For relaxed hair, the system extends the time between relaxer new-growth applications.
They gave women a solution to what they considered was a problem because as you know if you straighten your hair and the weather has an attitude that day, your hair may or may not poof within the hour regardless of what you use within your straightening process.
There are things you can do to prevent reversion, maybe use a product that reflects moisture rather than attract it, you can keep your hair wrapped, or you can re-flat iron* your hair with a prayer that you do not sustain damage.
The point is, for your hair to remain silky “relaxer straight” for that long and not behave like it normally would something has to change in the molecular structure of the strand, I do not care what they say.
According to the brand they do not have any ‘harsh chemicals’ in the product but after extensive research we have come to realize that term “harsh” can be relative, it just depends on who you are talking to. This is what the brand said:
The secret is the Inner-Active™ Leave-In Conditioner*, which is infused with essential oils*, natural butters* and amino acids, and has no harsh chemicals. The Inner Active™ leave-in conditioner* penetrates the hair, causing it to elongate and soften while making it easier to detangle. Once the detangling process is complete, the hair is blow-dried and flat ironed, creating beautifully straight, touchably soft hair with unmatched body, movement and shine – all in a fraction of the time of most traditional straightening methods.

great read (TMS) I just noticed that product last week, read the back & set it right back on the shelf. Didn’t believe it
TMW says
Yep, I saw it for the first time 2 weeks ago, read the box and like you put it back.. I just knew it had to be some kind of texturizer regardless of how good they made it sound on the box.

This system changed my curl pattern with just one use. I said I would never use it again!!

That sucks so much! Her hair was SO pretty! But, I guess you live and you learn. I love her positive attitude and the fact that she warned us about it.
Enez Laurendine says
I like her before pic so with that being said I won’t be using this system
Pamela Smith says
Used it and love it. The change was a great thing for me. My hair was really coily and I couldn’t style it for nothing. Now I can do 2 strand twists and everything. It’s not recommended for everybody but there have been enough warnings by the ladies to help in your decision. I will be doing it again though because I like the looser curls and coils
Asha Jamia says
Nevermind. Don’t want it.
Amanda Denise says
This system is crap. Just get a Dominican blow out and call it a day

I absolutely love using it. I’m Afto American and Asian; and it’s works great on me. I use to use kiddie kits relaxer on my hair and I got tons of breakage and it was super dry. Using TMS has made my hair easier to deal with.

Not sure what really happened to Chime’s hair. One video she says it’s the TMS then she said she has heat damage. What I do know is what works for one does not work for all. I used the TMS and it worked for me. I only straightened my hair when I first put it in. I loved it because it made my hair a cinch to detangle. I washed it out after a couple of months & my hair came back to my thick & curly. I am back to the “hate to wash my hair on Sunday” mode. I will put it back in in 4 months. I only straighten my hair twice a year.
Ashley Blue says
Never used it. I got my flat iron
Stephanie Holt-Miller says
I just don’t understand, has no one heard of keratin treatment. No damage, reverted back after first wash, did not really change curl pattern and actually just washed out in 3 months. And for that three to four months, just made the hair easier to wear straight without any frizz. No damage at all, speaking from personal experience. Cost about 250, with no permanent change to your curl pattern and is not a mild perm aka texturizer. A perm is like what 60 plus a few touchups so about 240 in for months? Keratin treatment is still natural hair, as no permanent change to the structure of the hair shaft or curl pattern
Michelle Nicole Charley says
I get keratin treatments also once a year…..I love it also, it’s great! I limit it to once a year just because of the large amount of heat needed to press the hair, but over all I’ve been getting it done for about 3 years now.
Venus Aradia says
Chime’s curls look so very beautiful in the after shot.
Tiff Wilson says
Stop being cheap, buying drug store boxed kits and go to a professional. Not someone who does hair, but a hair care professional. Smh…will never learn.
Joycelyn Cannon says
I only do blowouts one a year. I’d be leary to try something like that
