Yup, I didn’t even change the title, why? Because its a good one, why tamper with perfection right? I was watching Jouelzy on YouTube and she did a video and wrote an article for Ebony about the lack of honesty that hair vitamin companies have. Joulzey prefaced the article by saying:
Preface: I didn’t mention this in the video or the article, but I do NOT think it is the responsibility of YouTubers (bloggers, etc.,) to hold the companies responsible for their marketing. This is a business, and I’m not knocking anyone’s hustle. I simply wish the companies took the time to overall be more genuine and honest in their marketing, rather than just selecting folks that already have bountiful heads of hair. Same way I feel about other natural hair companies that are selling the myth of the curl — just show the honest diversity and all will be well.
We have talked about hair vitamins* before and we have expressed our opinion on them in support and from the perspective of if you take care of yourself you will not need to take vitamins*. We have even mentioned the fact that we all produce biotin* ourselves and when you take more biotin* you might have some adverse effects.
The sad truth is, many of us do not consume enough nutrients to give our hair everything it needs to be vibrant and grow at the rate that a little blue pill might provide which makes vitamins* appealing. Not to mention if you get a fast track to your hair goals you might be tempted to indulge a bit as well
I agree with Jouelzy there are marketing tricks for these products and as a result we have to be smart and do our own research about what is best for us. We encourage you to look at the back of the product read the ingredients, look up the ones you do not understand and make yourself aware of just what it is that you are putting in your body.
If I answered the question posed in the video about the shadiness of marketing I would say that there is definitely laziness when it comes to marketing a product especially when using celebrity endorsement. I think when you just give Phaedra parks a bottle and tell her to say she loves it so that everyone will say “see Phaedra loves it, let me go buy it” plays on some form of ignorance that the companies are very aware of.
The thing is though, it is the oldest trick in the book we see it used often by other companies like Weight Watchers or Jenny Craig and they do it because it works. They know that ‘we’ and I use that word loosely, take the opinions of celebrities seriously and might just act on an opinion expressed by one.
Personally I do not agree with the fact that they use just women predisposed to fast growing hair because I have seen a variety of hair types doing a bit of endorsing. But I do agree with the fact that they used women that are very influential to urban culture because they know that is all it would take.
Before you watch the video let me throw it out to you, would you buy a hair vitamin product because Porsha Willams said she does? And have hair vitamins* worked for you so far?
Check out the video below and share your opinion:
The ones I’ve taken I’d say no. You’d be better off taking regular vitamins, drinking lots of water, and keeping your hair clean and moisturized.
They worked for me. My edges grew back and my hair was stronger. I used Jamaican black oil too.
Yeah, they do, depending which ones you are using.
Hairfinity worked for me. My thin edges returned and my hair grew.
I hear great things about Biotin. Water is great for any “diet”.
ManeChoice worked for me better than any hair vitamin I’ve taken
I use Biotin, Vitamin C, and MSM and they have worked.. I won’t buy into the big companies products specifically because i can find out what my body needs by taking a simple blood test every year lol. I’ve noticed stronger thicker hair, as far as growth it has been coming along…i don’t know if it’s out of the norm for me..my hair grows a little above average…i just want to make sure the hair coming out my head is strong and lasts longer..and that’s what getting all the correct nutrients do. Vitamin C and MSM are especially great for many other reasons than just hair growth…people think you can keep the same diets and the pills will work wonders. You have to change your whole self.
Yes, I had to try several and found the one that works really well for me…they also make my fingernails go so so so so so long…and make my skin very smooth…
I think they just help make the hair stronger
Both Hairfinity and The Mane Choice have worked for me. I take both for the ‘extra’ boost in hair health and growth. My nails are so strong and grow like weeds. My skin is flawless and my hair is growing more and more. Especially now that it’s summer.
Also, because a great deal of our foods have been tampered with and have a lot of harmful chemicals and additives, we can’t really rely on just food for better health. Hair vitamins don’t only grow hair, but they put back nutrients into our bodies that we just simply can’t get from most foods. I’ve learned that in order to see hair growth/health my body has to be taken care of first and then the hair will be healthier and grow. Taking the vitamins compensate from what I don’t get in my diet. Also…….I don’t eat properly 🙁
I was taking regular prenatal vitamins and they worked really well. I decided to try something else. I did try the popular hair vitamin Hairinfinity and had a bad reaction to the pills. My hair length went form grazing shoulder blade to almost bald on the left side of my head from behind me ear to my nape. I only took 1 of the recommended 2 pills a day. I believe that their special complex that they have has something that I am allergic too. So my advice for anyone taking hair vitamins, read the ingredients and do your research. I do believe that a regular good multivitamin does the trick. Needless to say I am back to prenatal vitamins : )
I don’t believe hairfinity works, but I do believe manetabolism vitamins work. I use them.. And celebrity’s don’t sponsor them either
I love the information that jouelzy provided and I honestly can say I agree with her about the hair vitamins scam.
Have ever tried any? Or are you just agreeing with her just because
Isn’t this the same page that was promoting hair vitamins, now you’re saying they’re scamming customers! You guys are too much. Some information you share is formative , others times like this time, is just a matter of opinion. So I guess if hair vitamins are a scam , so are prenatal pills, and everything else…
Its very possible for a site to present all sides and then ppl can choose which they are on… Jouelzy is just one person giving an opinion. No where on this site do i see it
says her word is the only truth.
Prenatal pills though lol?
I said prenatal pills because the ingredients are very similar
I agree with her about the supplement in the product can be purchased at a lower price in which the company is selling them for. She did say we can get other nutrients through food we eat. If you notice, the big company is sending to big youtubers guru who already have long and thick hair. How about starting with someone with short hair or hair issue like I had to see if the products really works. I have tried Hairfinity for about 4 months and I didn’t see the results these bloggers shows us.
I’ve been taking Hair, Skin, & Nails Vitamins for a few months now and I’m happy with the results. I’m fully natural, lol. If you would talk time out to watch it, that would be great. Thanks in advance! 🙂 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YAJ23iSQfFY
Manetabolism works, i had 2 in new growth within 12 weeks
just take some prenatal pills..!
