Natural hair was unmanageable
Natural hair was unmanageable is taught to us from a young age when our moms and sisters get out the hot comb any time they want to make our hair last.
The way people comb our hair—yanking and causing our little heads to hurt could be a reason why a lot of young women have grown up both tender-headed and hating their hair.
Natural hair is not unmanageable at all. To prepare yourself to detangle please have your hair in damp sections, rub oil on all the sections, use a thick cream to seal, and then comb from the ends. Boom! Your hair will be soft and manageable. If it makes it easier, get some heat styling products to blow dry your hair and then style your hair.
Natural hair needs to be straightened
When I was younger, I was always told I needed a perm that it was like bread and water. I tried to get the same results by continually straightening my hair with a hot comb. My hair did not like being straight for long because it reverted to its natural state as soon as a drop of water hit it.
Natural hair does not need to be straightened to be made “better” or “easier” to manage. So many people straighten because they do not know how to take care of natural hair, but they have never taken the time to learn how. Wearing your true hair texture with coils and curls is nothing to be ashamed of. You are wonderfully made with a purpose and that purpose is not made to be hidden.
Wearing natural hair is unprofessional
Certain styles of natural hair are unprofessional. It may not be a good idea to show up to an office with an afro or a Mohawk, but keeping your hair in an up-do may be less of a distraction and more professional.
You are there for business and not to make some statement about natural hair. Also, for interviews please play it safe. There are plenty of cute natural hairstyles that are also very well-groomed and look simple for work. Naptural85 has a video on professional. A simple bun can do just fine for work.
Natural hair is controversial/political
Wearing the hair that God has given you is not controversial or you trying to make a political statement. Remember that other’s opinions will be made, let them! Ladies and gentlemen, werk that hair.
You will make a statement, “my hair is beautiful and I am confident in my identity.”
Natural hair is not versatile
I have tried so many hairstyles with natural. Did you know that people can use natural hair and rubber bands and come up with hundreds of styles?
You can lose a day on Instagram or Pinterest going through all of the hair ideas. Between twist-outs, bantu-knots, braids, and different pin-up looks, natural hair has a plethora of styles. Do not become convinced that you must pick one; try all the hairstyles.

I needed this article…..I’ve been natural for two years now and my hair has only gotten to a a certain length. I’ve grown frustrated because I’ve seen other women who have done the same thing and their hair has grown so much more. I believed that I needed a professional to do my hair but the times I have gone to them, they’ve slapped weave or braids or something in it. This journey has been hard but this article has given me some type of hope. Thank you.
