Do you have boys? Well if you do, then you know the challenges of raising one, especially if he is particularly rambunctious. But before I give my opinion, let me tell you what I am rambling on about.
In Snellville, Georgia, there is a barbershop called A-1 Kutz where the master barber Russell Fredrick (otherwise known as Rusty Fred) is giving free haircuts to children that are misbehaving.
He calls the haircut, the “Benjamin Button Special” but social media has been calling it “The George Jefferson Haircut”. As you can see, the haircut mimics George Jefferson’s natural balding pattern hence the name.
When the first set of pictures hit the web, the following caption was added to it:
“So you wanna act grown… well now you can look grown too”
The sentiment behind the cut has been mixed, to say the least. Some people are saying we need to stop humiliating our African American kids, and others proclaiming that it’s an excellent parenting decision, as these kids need a lesson sometimes. Here’s the video….
My opinion? I have no idea what the issues were behind the kids whose parents decided to give them the Benjamin Button hair cut, but the attitude that I have experienced personally and the some of the shenanigans kids dish out, whether at home or outside of the home, tells me that occasionally they need a bit of tough discipline.
I was raised with ‘tough discipline’ and the last time I checked, I was just fine. You have to define for yourself how to discipline your own child, and while I will definitely knock extreme methods that harm children, all things considered, this one is OK with me.
As usual, we will allow you guys to share your own opinion on this. Would you take your son to get a Benjamin Button haircut if he was caught misbehaving? Or is it just too humiliating?

Old School: Whoop his butt. The system has it so messed up now that, you can’t reprimand your children. But the police are shooting the for no reason. So I say Whoop his butt. I survived the best azz whooping. 50 years old and I still respect my elders. Please don’t take my head off for my opinion. Kids are out of control.

I am old school! However now a days ppl and ur kids tell teachers they got a whipping and they call CPS on u and ten u got to go through an investigation….(happen to three of my good friends, unfounded of course but still) hair grows back. But the child gets the point. Idk it’s so hard coming up with things to discipline children when everyone is so u will hurt their self esteem, ur being mean! Listen my parents and their sibling used that southern discipline weather u were thei child or not and let me tell u it worked! And we all laugh about what we did and how it was handled. #stopthemadnessanddisiplineyourchild!
Inetha Brown says
I agree with you whole hardly, we turn out great behind those whooping too. Children now days no the laws better than us and they will lie and use it against parents.

This is nice . Whooping butts are okay too so far you are training the child. If I love my child, I should train him not just by talking if you want them to be responsible.
Terence Russell says
Wow
Andrea Angie Tater says
I’ve seen worst than this on Facebook the adults are ignorant to the fact that whatever is posted/sent on social media is there FOREVER the child will grow up and these things are there to haunt them…..example a father shames his 7yo son for jerking off can you imagine the humiliation he faces at school and elsewhere? …..that’s mental abuse….
Shawntel Singletary says
People are so stupid and jump on the bandwagon for anything.
Im not against disciplining your child but you couldn’t pay me to humiliate my own kids. That’s something totally different and other than disciplining.
