For me it is always easier to just jump in the shower and start from the beginning instead of styling old hair, but girl Donedo ‘don’ changed my life with this video.
Below she styles an old braid out into 4 styles, she has a retro vintage look that gave me all kinds of life and double buns that is perfect for a Saturday afternoon date with the bestie.
The key to styling old hair is how your hair feels while styling. If you hair is dry to the point of tangles beyond repair then it makes sense to go ahead and wash it.
However if your hair still feels good, even a little gooky from buildup you can probably get a few styles out of it for a day or two more.
The cool thing about dirty hair:
1. It gives your hair hold
Only afro textured hair has the ability to stay in place defying gravity even with a little dirt in it. You can create a super fro and not expect your hair to look flat as the day moves along.
2. Dirty hair looks great
Listen do not even quote me on this and tell everyone I told you that you should not cleanse your hair because dirty curls look great.
Cleansing is always a priority but it is a fact that dirty hair tends to look great, I cannot explain it, I have no science to back the claim, but I have people who can back me up in case there is any doubt.
Even though styling old hair gives you a few extra days in case you do not have time for a full on wash day. Know when to cleanse your hair, in other words, do not style old hair for weeks and weeks on end.
The reason this even works in the first place is because on wash day you deep condition well, ensure that you moisturize weekly and seal well.
