Chicago has been riddled with stories of gang related violence and in this case a Chicago teen, Chantal Hammontree was shot in the head due to affiliation with a family member who was affiliated with a gang. It is like living in a real life God father movie and it is very scary. Chantal was sitting in a car in the East Chatham neighbourhood when shots were fired at the back of the car smashing the back window of the car.
According to NBC Chicago who interviewed her uncle, she was coming home and her girlfriend was dropping her off. Here is what he had to say:
“She was coming home, and when her girlfriend let her out of the car, the guy walked up and just shot her,” Randy Berry (her uncle), explained . There was the ‘East Side, West Side’ type of thing going on, the shooter told her that because she was affiliated with him, they were going to shoot her also.”
Chantal was rushed to the hospital and was reported as in critical condition. The doctors said that the weave in Chantal’s hair is what saved her and that it was a miracle for her to be alive, according to Chantal’s uncle.
“ The doctors assumed that when the bullet kind of went in, it bounced out because she had the weave in her hair. She got a few fragments in there. She didn’t lose consciousness. She’s still woke. She’s still coherent. She still knows everybody and everything. So they just waiting now, they did the tests and everything, so far it’s looking good. Nobody gets shot in the head and still awake and still talking and everything so, that was a miracle all by itself.”
We are happy Chantal is ok and we wish her a speedy recovery, it was not her time and despite the shock of this story we are grateful she was saved by her hair.
