Your wash day is essentially the heart of your hair care regimen and the regimens that we post on BHI are excellent and will help you retain length if you follow yours consistently.
Based on some of the questions we get however, I notice that a lot of newbies are still confused about how exactly to go about doing stuff that the rest of us may find pretty easy.
For instance: Do you shampoo weekly? Do you detangle straight after conditioning or afterwards? Do you wash your hair all at once or in sections?
Honestly there is no right or wrong answer to these questions. I could tell you what I prefer to do but you may find something slightly different works better for your own hair. It’s a learning curve and all part and parcel of your hair journey.
LUV Naturals (Kimmaytube’s hair products) recently posted a series of videos showing a simple wash day routine. After detangling and shampooing, she has included both a wash out conditioning routine, a deep conditioning* one as well as tips for co-washing.
I would generally recommend deep conditioning (with heat) weekly especially if you have coarse hair. These videos will be very helpful to those of you who are finding it difficult to picture how your wash day should look. Enjoy!
Detangling – In this video Kim shares her easy finger detangling routine for her natural hair. It’s easy to grasp her method and watching this you can begin to understand how she has managed to retain so much length over the years.
Washing – Kim’s shampooing routine is very easy to master and because it does not involve hopping in and out of the shower, it saves a great deal of water and frees up your time too.
Conditioning – Kim has included wash out, deep conditioning* and co-washing tips.
Leave In – In this part Kim is showcasing her own leave in conditioner* that moisturizes and seals in one step. If you are like me however, I prefer to moisturize with something creamy and seal my hair with an oil too. Just follow the same process.
Note: In case you are wondering, I haven’t had the pleasure of using the LUV naturals products myself so I cannot speak for their effectiveness. Please share in the comments if you have used them.
