She apologized and said how she had been working all day, someone was late so it pushed her schedule back, and she hadn’t had time to eat. Understandable. But what she did next really made me have to turn my head and be like umm ma’am..!
Midway through a track being sewn, she grabbed a chicken wing with the same hand that was holding my weave and then started sewing with the other. I felt like I was already going to smell like fried foods because of her cooking, and now I was going to have chicken grease in my hair?! Hell no.
I politely asked if she wouldn’t eat while sewing my weave because I don’t want chicken in my hair. I even added in a light chuckle so she wouldn’t be offended but I guess she was. She threw the chicken wing down and then got quiet as she continued sewing.
Her mother then came home and said hello, and the two then sparked a conversation about the girl heading to the CIAA tournament. She then started listing off how much she had made that day and bad mouthing her friend about not having any money to go. Again, Blank stare. I don’t know why it was so awkward.
She finally finished sewing and started talking to me again. I guess she was over the chicken wing incident. She confirmed the length of the cut, grabbed her scissors, and started cutting.
Wait! There was not a salon cape nor a towel around my shoulders. I cringed as I felt the bits of hair first fall on my neck and knew that my sweater was already covered.
I quickly asked if she had a towel for my shoulders to which she shot back there were no clean ones. My response: Blank stare.
After the cut she quickly curled it, weakly brushed off my shoulders, and handed me a mirror. Looking at my new style, I thought it was beautiful! She did a great job but the service and experience was just… no.
I paid her what we agreed on (no tip) and I got out of there as fast as I could. I stood in the parking lot for a good 5 minutes trying to brush the remaining bits of hair off of me, but unfortunately when I met my best friend for Mexican I was still itchy and uncomfortable.
Moral of the story, it may be worth it to pay a little extra coin for a better experience the next time.
