My scalp used to be so itchy, however, what perplexed me was that it would be itchy even just after I had shampooed and deep conditioned my hair. In order to figure out what was causing my scalp irritation, I ended up using one product at a time and you would not believe what the fuss was about.
Spraying water and oil mixture or rather any liquid on my hair
Now everyone uses a spray bottle every day for moisture but for me spraying this mixture made my scalp so itchy and I would scratch my scalp until it became sore and unbearable. I stopped spraying liquids and instead I deep conditioned every week so that my hair had enough moisture to last until at least the third day.
Reacting to some oils
I have experimented with a variety of oils* in my natural hair journey mainly because I love oils* and they make my hair feel soft and appear shiny when used in the right way.
My favorite oil was olive oil* as it left my hair silky and shiny, however, I discovered I was allergic to it one year during spring season because my eyes were so itchy with hay fever.
I was also applying olive oil* on my eyes and the itching got worse. The moment I stopped using Olive oil* in my regimen completely the itchiness on my eyes and head stopped. I also found out I was allergic to Castor Oil* which is also very popular in the natural hair community and one which I loved so much.
The moral of the story is that regardless of how popular a certain product or practice is for most of the women in your circle, it doesn’t automatically mean the same things will work for you.
Always conduct a skin test with all oils so that you can determine if you are allergic and if you are you should avoid the oil at all costs.
