I am just so excited about all the holiday hairstyles that have graced YouTube lately! Natural hair is getting all glammed up for parties and night outs and it feels GREAT!
I am loving the response too from naturals just eating up all the pics and videos. It is a wonderful time to be natural so if you are thinking about it just jump in.
Well, not everyone this winter is diving into the protective styling mode and a natural doesn’t HAVE to. Actually, some naturals just wanna have fun and curls. Believe me…we can do both! This is why I wanted to share this video of gorgeous curls created with heat. Yea, you heard me…heat.
If you know me then you know I am no fan of heat but got to love this style and got to LOVE My Natural Sistas very thorough discussion on using heat (in general) and for this sexy style.
Here’s her video tutorial.
The video is only 4 minutes long but she takes us through the style from start to finish. She uses the tension method with a blow dryer* that allows you to add heat protectant* to the sponge that is in the nozzle. This is supposed to give off a vapor instead of direct heat. Who knew?
She is being extremely careful with her heat usage. She uses a curling wand* with temperature controls and she even gives it a break (3 times actually) to keep it from getting too hot and damaging her hair.
That blow dryer* and curling wand* sound amazing. They appear to be a sound and important investment in anyone wanting to use heat but fearful of heat damage. Her style lasted three weeks but it did not stay as defined as when she first did it but she says it was still presentable.
Some of the products used were Remington Digital Ceramic Curling Wand, IPak Infusion Vapor Dryer (which doesn’t appear to be on sale any more) & a generic heat protectant* from Sally’s.
Her curls came out gorgeous, shiny and healthy-looking. What a great style for those parties and get-togethers!
Have fun Naturals!

I second that, I saw a wand on amazon for about 12 bucks smdh lol it’s on my wishlist for now…I’m still debating but it does seem like a good investment for the future (currently protecting styling lol)
Monicathemakeoverqueen says
We’ll I am loving the curls, what she leftout was that you have to make sure your ends are trimmed correctly before you do anything to your hair…with heat…without heat….natural or chemicaled hair, or it would further damage your hair plus your styles will not hold…..by the looks of the state of her hair, her hair was pretty healthy, that is why her hair could last for 3weeks..
Sabrina Perkins says
Yes, sealed ends that are not split or raggedy always give better styles. Thanks for sharing.

What I’ve learned that everything/style can not work on all hair types. This is gorgeous and easy but texture, length, etc plays a huge role in the outcome. Thanks for the tutorial and happy holidays….
