Lay down those edges
If you decide to rock a full wig, you HAVE to make sure that your baby hairs are laying right.
This is especially true if your wig is a different texture from your natural hair. You can have the best wig in the world, but if you don’t style your own hair the right way it won’t matter.
All you need is some gel (or edge control), a brush, a scarf, and about 20 minutes. Use the gel to lay your hair how you’d like, and wrap the satin scarf around the sides (or over your entire head – whatever works for you). When you’re ready to go, take off the scarf and put on the wig.
Be careful how you put on the wig
Wig placement is just as important as everything else. Even if you have a full lace or lace front wig, don’t place it right on top of your hair or in front of your hairline.
Instead, place the wig maybe an inch or less behind your hairline/edges. This way, as long as the wig* is the same color as your hair, you will be able to blend it accordingly.
To go the extra mile, you can make sure the lace of the wig matches your scalp. YouTube videos show several ways to achieve this but one way is to take your makeup concealer and dab a bit of it on top of the lace where the wig is parted. This will mimic the color of your scalp, and make the wig look more realistic.
If you have a u-part wig, watch where you place the sides. You want to be able to cover the sides of the clips so that they won’t be seen.
Depending on the texture of the wig, do what you must to your natural leave out to blend it. For most wigs*, you can do twist outs, braid outs, or even wash n gos (if you get kinky* hair extensions*) to blend with the wig*.
If you don’t have the time or energy to put into installing a full or partial weave, I’d recommend investing in a good wig or making your own.
You’ll have less maintenance of the hair overall, and your hair will be protected underneath. After playing around with wigs* for a while, it’ll get much easier and you’ll wonder why you never wore one before!

Thank you for pointing out that one of the best tips in wearing wigs is to find the one that is best for you. My sister has been thinking about purchasing a hair wig. It’s good to know that there are three different kinds of wig types she can choose from.
