Have you ever listened to Elle Varner’s station on Pandora? It is one of my absolute favorites, and I really can’t wait to hear some new music from my girl, I love her voice and her spirit.
So as usual, being the instagram stalker that I am I noticed that the Perfectly Imperfect singer had been posting some pictures of herself rocking straight blonde vintage hair, dark roots and a classic red lip.
The usually curly songstress did not have any captions explaining why she had decided on the drastic change; she just did a few poses, attended a couple parties (including the SWV Reunited premiere party in New York) and let the look ride. Hey! I’m not mad, get it girl, have a fun!
She recently hosted a women’s empowerment dinner party attended by Roc Nation singer Bridget Kelly, Project Runway designer Samantha Black and singer-singwriter Sonyae Elise. Perhaps the change in hair color is a continuation of the empowerment theme?
Before posting the pictures of herself having fun while blonde, she posted something Gabourey Sidibe said earlier that week, she said:

I don’t know about her not wanting to be associated with her black side garners any truth. However, as a light skin African-American female, I think that black women should not dye their hair blond because it just demonstrates a lack of pride in the color that God gave you. I think that light skin black women can wear certain shades of blond. I think that darker shades of black skin should not wear blind in their hair. Black women wearing shades of blond really demonstrates the love of the look of white women and it is truly sad. Black women wearing blond hair is unnatural! Beyoncé needs to stop wearing blond weaves and wear her hair in a more natural tone that would be associated with the African-American heritage of which she declares. Many years ago, after completing college I visited Australia for three months and learned quite a bit about the Aborigine culture. An experience I would not trade for any thing in this world.

Look at articles in magazines and even online that talk about the number of African-American stars who have started to look white or so light that many of them are not even noticed anymore. Many blacks are having plastic surgery done to themselves by getting slimmer noses and other procedures. I don’t see any of the black stars doing surgery to make their skin darker or their noses to look bigger. Trying to look more white has a true appeal to the black race and other races because it called the standard of beauty.

Some people just like to change their look up every now & then. It doesn’t have anything to do with her not wanting to be Black or not wanting to associate herself with Black culture. I change my hair from time to time & I’m natural. I just like expressing myself in different ways. A lot of artistic people do.
