Domineque Aka Lonhairdontcare2011 Passes Away: A Sad Day in Our Community

Okay guys, so as I am* typing this I feel like breaking down into tears. We are sad to say that natural hair vlogger, Longhairdontcare2011 aka Domineque has passed away due to complications with lupus.

I did not know her personally, but through following her and her inspirational journey I felt as if I’ve known her or as if I had her as a close friend. Not only was she a helpful woman in the hair care community but she was a sweet, wonderful, and beautiful person both inside and out. She will truly be missed.

Domo’s friend, Macy, has created a foundation to help raise money for her cremation and funeral costs. Here is what they posted on their giveforward page:

It is with a most heavy heart that I bring you the news of my dear friend’s passing. Domineque passed away on April 9th, 2014 after complications brought on by Lupus. Though she was a long-time sufferer of this disease, her condition turned for the worst in recent months with her kidneys functioning at a terribly low rate. Tragically, Domineque fell unconscious the night of April 7th but thankfully her amazing partner was there by her side to perform CPR and call 911. Domineque was placed on life support and was not able to breathe on her own. At 12:30pm, on April 9th, after having suffered a heart attack, she passed away. She was 27 years old.This is a truly difficult time for her spouse, family, and friends– it is beyond surreal and heartbreaking to write what has transpired. I have set up this fundraiser to help with both the funeral and cremation costs. Also, we are trying to fly out her sister and young nephew who don’t have the funds to purchase flights. We will make sure they see Domineque one last time.We sincerely thank you for your help, it is humbly appreciated.

Added by Alma: Longhairdontcare2011 was a huge part of why I decided to transition to natural and subsequently start BHI. It’s surprising how much someone you have never met or even spoken to one to one can affect the course of your life and I’m sure that her 90k + subscribers on YouTube will be feeling the loss too. Our sincerest condolences to her family.
