The above picture has been circulating all over social media and alot of people are pretty pissed about it. The people at In Touch Weekly thought it would be cute to publish a comparison between Solange Knowles and a Yorki poodle named Jackie.
Some may call us super sensitive, I mean the dog is cute and according to comments on Instagram, whats the big deal, its just a cute little puppy.
The problem I have with people who say things like that is if they were compared to a dog by a national magazine for all the world to see they honestly would sing a different tune.
Since its a celebrity its ok to make such comparisons! No matter how I spin it, if some one said I looked like a dog I wouldn’t think it was funny. The owner of the dog submitted the picture with the following statement:
“Yorkipoo Jackie is “basically twinsies” with Beyoncé’s sis, says the 5-year-old pup’s owner, Brian Murray Jr. ‘They rock the same hairdo…’
People say crazy stuff all the time about our hair and general appearance, we are used to it, we depend on each other to know what is right, what is mediocre and what is down right wrong to say.
I agree with some of the blogs, In Touch Weekly needs a lesson in sensitivity a little bit of diversity training not just once but yearly. While I can say the owner of the dog is an idiot I would have thought that an establishment like In Touch Weekly would have staff dedicated to ensuring that what was published in the magazine or online was at the very least respectful considering celebrity material pays the bills.
I understand the need to publish something that is interesting, something that will capture an audience but there is a line, and for me and for others online the line was crossed.
What do you think of the picture, disrespectful or cute?
And how could that be considered cute?
Exactly
Right?!
Disrespect! Dehumanizing! Of noh?
Smh
Disrespect! Dehumanizing! Of noh? Lisa Deul
Disrespectful! Comparing black hair to any animal is wrong.
You all are def overreacting, they asked for submissions. They did not single out solange by all means. This could have been any celebrity, black, white, orange blue whatever it is.
I have to agree with you, Raven. In Touch would publish this about any celebrity. If we want to be treated as everyone else, this is part of what it looks like. Is it bullsh to compare anyone to a dog? Yes. But multiple magazines do this. I have seen more than a few articles that weren’t even submissions from a reader. One article took random dogs and compared them to celebrities of every race, mostly white ones, A list, C list be darned. I find it a little silly given the world we lives in for this to be an article and for people to get up in arms. Missing the point much. The world could use a serious amount of sensitivity training but it has nothing to do with race or natural hair. As far as I’m concerned In touch would be delighted to get the extra publicity and the amount of people who go to their website or pick up the magazine to see the picture.
Very disrespectful !!! This magazine did not choose to place side by side photos of other ethnicities ie. whites in comparison with dogs of their similar hair texture. It’s totally negative from any aspect and wrong. I’m sure the picture was published to elicit a reaction, and a sad attempt at improving sales. Horrible!
I guess she can get ready for foolishness like this now that she is no longer just Beyonce little sister. Its stupid and unnecessary. Clearly they didn’t see the elevator video
yes its disrespectful and they shouldn’t have posted it!
Out Of Order!!!
Way out of line…unless they did the same to others as well!
Disrespectful… who would compare a dog to a human??? Smh
Exactly
DisRespectful……… point blank peroid. Nothing cute about that at all. Smh……….
That’s so disrespectful! She is beautiful for embracing her natural hair and not letting ignorant people who publish stories like this get to her
Was that supposed to be funny though??
another shot to black women smh #whenwillitend
Disrespectful
Exactly! DEHUMANIZING!
Disrespectful
Solange Your Beautiful!!
Disrespectful They are basically saying her hair looks like a dog’s hair
Disrespectful offcourse, its not funny at all.
Lions don’t lose sleep over the opinions of sheep. Solange is a beautiful black woman, love her!
I wish I could like this a thousand times 🙂
Not surprised they always compare us to animals. Because in their eyes we are not human.
disrespectful
Just plain sad, this world just sad
People so ignorant in this world
Disrespectful. ……then ppl talk us cause we relax our hair..we can’t win
Excatly! they’re never satisfied
Offensive. Very.
They r the one who get head lice not us blacks!!! So I guess we can compare them to animals???
LOL! Good one.
Haha right 🙂
If it’s not hurting solanges feelings then why should it concern annnnnyone else? Pretty sure as a celebrity she knows not to take things do personally especially when it’s obvious that there was no foul intent :/ seriously, who made this into such a sensitive subject? And I mean. .. Are we going to get all upset when Jenny submits a picture of her horse and compares its face to Julia Roberts? ? I doubt it, but of course if someone compares a dogs fur texture to a person’s hair. ..
… hair. ..that quite honestly looks exactly the same…
people get upset.
WHY? They aren’t saying she looks like a dog so why are people upset?
Exactly
Disrespectful oh my god
Her hair is who we are. Making a mockery of her is making a mockery of all ethnic women with wooly hair, but then again Jesus’ hair was also made of wool! The way to show them is for more of us to denounce the European weave and embrace more ethnic textures! The heck with them (to include some of us) and what they believe is beauty!
Rachet ass magazine…
Magazines compare others to dogs all the time. Remember that old snoop dog video.
Just another way to make black women feel bad about our natural hair. Our black is beautiful baby.
Amen!
She’s not the first celebrity (or ‘normal’ person) to have been compared to an animal because of similar hair or features and she won’t be the last…

Thank you! Folk going off, and meanwhile they have “do you look like your pet” contests all the time, that folk of all races participate in.
Disrespectful…..she’s a woman not a freaking pet.
dumb ass who wote this article.
Disrespectful
Disrespectful
This is offensive and also disrespectful. We always talk about black women being natural and being ourselves. Then to post something like this. Really?
EXACTLY! This hair page has become a joke.
Wow
Very disrespectful
Is that even a question? Of course that is highly disrespectful. Comparing someone to a dog.
they do that article every week. its not disrespectful. the week before, it was a white woman. it wasnt disrespectful then either.
Disrespectful
Honesty I have been ashamed to wear my hair sometimes? but having the support of you other black women to help me with this fucking acceptance thing. I now wear my HAIR!!! Thank you all I feel her hair must look DAMM good cause there talking about. Trying to make it matter to confuse us Lovely’s so we change “again” not being true to self. Right…/ Wrong who really cares cause it aint us is it? Just my take on it……
Rock your hair girl!!!!! Do you !!
yes yes rock your natural
Oh and remember when it was cute when a white women looked and dressed like her dog?
How is that cute?
I’m on the fence with this one.. they do it to white people too
Does Solange care thou
Wait, if they run this article every week- comparing celebrities to an animal, then it’s not disrespectful. If they did this only to Solange then obviously, it is disrespectful. Some comments implied this is a regular feature in this magazine. I don’t read it so I can’t say.
Regardless, Solange is beautiful! I personally like her style (even more than Beyonce’s).
Another negative image,
They call this article news worthy, this is just nonsense
This is why I stop buying these magazines or newspaper
#beautifulblackwomen
Disrespectful and a shame. Love her natural hair.
Totally Disrectful. They should do one comparing smell.
I’m loving the hair on both of them, and as for white people we could just as easily post a picture of a white person and a giant maggot laying sprawled out on the beach trying in vein to become Melanin Blessed, Sun Kissed Brown, so I just say white people don’t hate me, because you can’t be me.
This is sooooooo far from cute, it’s disrespectful but im sure she’s won’t miss any sleep over this foolishn
They hair look just alike if any person woulda done it it woulda just been funny not a big deal I think its f****n funny
Ain’t nothing cute about that disrespectful mess!!
Well her mother was no better talking about her wedding in a disrespectful manner.
You can tell her mother obviously favor Beyonce……
boycott they ass….
Of course this is disrespectful, why even ask.
I hope Solange goes off on that magazine the way she did in that elevator
Disrespectful…without even reading the article.
Is this really a serious question?. .
Disrespectful, why is Solange being compared to a dog.
I was thinking the same thing.
Nice to see solange all natural !!! Of course that’s a piss take comparing her to a dog …smh
I take it the way it the way it was intended. Disrespectful.
So sad and disrespectful
Dead Wrong!!!!!! On so,many levels!!!!
Disrespectful on so many levels. Solange looks better than the botox blondes they normally feature.
Was she the only celeb pic or did they have a pic of like Sarah Jessica Parker and a horse?
Clearly disrespectful!!!!!!
Yes its very disrespectful and rasicst to Solange. Once again here goes a white magazine comparing a black woman to an animal a dog. Come on now
Never buying In Touch and an apology needs to be made!
That’s not right!!!
It seems like it’s a thing they do, does anyone know if her comparison is the first one? If so, than maybe there’s some merit to this as a racial issue, but if it’s not (and the invitation to send in more photos people’s celebrity look so like pets) than I think that maybe this is less racism or a put down and more just a stupid portion of the magazine.
Disrespectful for sure!
