A lot of you who are still relaxing your hair may wonder why isn’t my hair growing? I buy all these products, why isn’t anything working? Why is my hair so dry all the time, and the list goes on and on and on. What if I told you that you don’t need a whole bunch of fancy and, not to mention, expensive products to have beautiful relaxed hair?
The key to healthy relaxed hair that retains length is a simple regimen. You don’t need a million products and a complicated regimen to see results.
Here is my simple regimen that I use for healthy and long relaxed hair:
First, I wash my hair each week, prepooing with natural oils overnight 95% of the time (my favorite is extra virgin olive oil*, castor oil*, and coconut oil*). After which I use a sulfate free shampoo* and once a month I use a clarifying shampoo* to clear my scalp of any buildup and reset my hair.
Then I deep condition. I deep condition every week and for me, this is the most vital part of any wash day. Make sure you deep condition every time you wash your hair.
I use a moisture based deep conditioner* each week, however, once a month I use a protein based deep conditioner*, and I ALWAYS follow up with a leave-in and air dry then blow dry my roots, wrap it and I’m good to go!
I moisturize and seal every other day with a water based moisturizer (water as the first ingredient) and seal with a natural oil. I make sure to focus on the ends since they are the weakest and most times the driest parts of our hair.
I relax my hair every 7-8 weeks and I trim after every other relaxer. It is important to mention that my hair has bleached highlights and has been bleached multiple times. For me consistency is what helps my hair to thrive and it is what will help your relaxed hair to thrive as well.
Are you still relaxing? How is your journey so far?
