Sell hair products
Again not easy, but if you have a knack for mixing and combining you have a great place to start. Many beauty brands that you see at Target and at Ulta started in the kitchen, Carol’s Daughter is the one that comes readily to mind.
We have watched women grow from one video on Youtube to having scores of products on the end caps at Target, so it is very possible. Start off small, maybe a scented shea butter* mix or a simple oil mix. The key is to stay authentic to what you want to accomplish.
Many times we might think we should go all natural because that’s what sells in hair care, and it does but if you need to tweak a formula to ensure that your product has longevity then you might have to put a few other ingredients in there.
When selling products branding is again important, so make sure you keep things simple so that it cost less but can stand the test of time as well.
Start a YouTube Channel
YouTube can be very profitable if you are consistent about your work. You can have both a YouTube Channel and a blog, but if you just do YouTube, you can make quite a bit of money as well.
Once you make YouTube partner, YouTube will pay you according to views which sounds simple, but can get even more technical as you dive into that world. For example, if YouTube pays $10 per 1000 views, and you get 40,000 views on one video, then you should expect a check for $400.00 bucks. Of course, YouTube needs to be paid for providing the infrastructure, so you will have to take a percentage of that 400 and hand it over to them.
Either way, with proper promotion, a bit of technical skill and some really fabulous content you can make some money if you really try. Our advice is to be honest about your hair and hair care on Youtube, your audience can pick out anything that seems a bit fake with the quickness. For example, if you have a sponsored post just say so, it happens, its a business and we all know that.
Freelance writing for a natural hair website
If you do not feel like owning your own blog, or if you want to make some money immediately while building your own audience then write for someone.
Freelance writing is a great way to practice your writing skills, demonstrate your knowledge about hair, and build your own audience all at the same time.
Most of the bigger blogs and websites pay writers for content. You can make as much as $40.00 per article, depending on the quality, and who you approach. The point it, the opportunity is there for the taking; you just have to go get it.
Take a class
Listen, when you leave college, it’s not over. You might find that you will need to brush up on some skills to make your venture that much better. You might not be great with the technology side of things, so you might want a class on SEO, or maybe you are struggling with your photographs and videography. You can always just take a short class.
Some of us do just fine with Google, but a lot of us like the classroom setting and can really benefit from it. Invest in yourself, if you really want to pursue this industry as a means of making some cash, it is well worth it. Get your money, in my best Rihanna voice!

I am one year natural and i started a blog though it is not entirely on hair but i do make hair posts which my mom was very happy about and at one point had asked why I’m not making money out of it and i told here that I’m still looking to gain more readers then venture into it. Then this month a friend of mine who is developing a website that sells hair products told me i would be perfect fit to contribute articles that are hair related and get paid for it, so yeah I’m currently not making money off my own blog but from another website. 🙂

I know what she means when she says it’s a new thing. It’s not really, but in my circle, it has become a big thing! Sooo many people are taking on to it like never before. It’s like a new trend.
