It’s no secret that I CANNOT pineapple my hair at night to save my life. I endure tons of shrinkage and I am working with a much shorter version of my hair by the evening.
The other issue is how awful my hair looks after it’s been put up in a pineapple all night long. Let’s just say my son has a special name for me on those mornings and it ain’t cute.
I’ve tried some slight variations as well and it seems any method fails. My hair hates being upside down for an extended period of time while sleeping. I have come to the conclusion that the pineapple nighttime routine is NOT for everyone and it most certainly is NOT for me.
Despite my struggles I have been determined to find a nighttime routine that will allow me to look halfway decent in the morning. Just recently I came across this video by Alicia James.
Alicia, a natural hair YouTuber came to my rescue with a short and sweet video on her own nighttime routine that gives her 2nd and 3rd day hair with no pineappling!
The great part of this video was it’s length, or rather the lack of it. If a YouTuber can’t get her technique, routine, or point across in four minutes or less then it’s not the video for me. Since her video was only 3 minutes long, I was able to sit still for a few minutes to watch it, take a look.
How simple, how cute and how long have I been walking around busted in the morning when I could have been looking like a diva? I’m too through with myself but grateful for the find.
This technique, with a few bobby pins*, can allow me to have 2nd and even 3rd day hair. I am so thankful to Alicia for thinking outside of the Pineapple box.
Can’t master the pineapple? Check this video out and let me know what you think.
My. Name. Is. Jaidon
This is so good… I’m certainly going to try it!
I tried it last night with great results.
hey whats pineappling?
It’s a very high ponytail on the top of your head to protect your curls while you sleep. The name comes from the shape of your hair if put in correctly. The idea is for only the underneath back of your hair to be disturbed while sleeping all the while protecting the length of your hair, or the mound of beautiful curls as it stays on the top of your head.
What’s her curl pattern?
I would say 3C/4A
If you have a wrap…pull your hair back in a bonnet..don’t wrap it! Mine came out nice!
I never wrap my hair so I cannot do that but that’s a great idea for others. Thanks for sharing.
Tried this for the last two nights on my bantu knot out twists & completely happy. I usually have to redo my hair every 2 days if I want to wear it out but with this it still looks great, so happy to have seen this, pineappling does not work for my 4c hair (or I just don’t know how to do it correctly).
That’s awesome! Don’t sweat it because I have 3C/4A hair and it has NEVER worked for me. Thanks for sharing.
So glad to see this, pineapple has NEVER worked for me and until now I thought maybe it was just me. Ironically when my hair was relaxed I used to pin it like this instead of wrapping it, don’t know why I never thought to try it on my natural hair.
I’m so glad you found this. Yes, I was in the same boat and wondered if something was wrong with me or my hair since could not master this technique. Thanks for sharing.
my hair is now long enough to do this and I’ve been doing it all year, love it.
Very nice. Love the hair. My hair is nowhere near that long and I have a hard time getting second day hair. I couldn’t even think about third day.
Ok, I new to natural hair terminology. What is the pineapple?
Yay for a new technique!
Awww man this is so simple… I normally do 3 puffs at night which stretches my hair. I’ll be trying this technique also since its so simple… Thnx for sharing Alfreda Goethie
