Signature hairstyles are hard to come by and even people who always sport one particular style may not have found in it a style that suits them or a style that makes their personality come to life. In one of my articles I covered Huey, a notable character from the adult swim show Boondocks and his ‘afro.’
What I failed to mention was how good this hairstyle fit his personality and his overall demeanor, just as Jasmine’s innocent countenance was perfect for the two pigtails she was given.
I know some of you are out there searching for the signature look. I will always be loyal to updos because they are my signature look.
They bring out my cheekbones and my facial profile, they are also versatile as you can use them to go to a wedding or a rock concert.
This is not to say I do not wear other hairstyles, it is to say that I find that in order to really find a signature hairstyle like Lupita Nyong’o’s twa, I strongly encourage getting to know yourself first and then looking at the following list to see what exactly your signature hairstyle will be.
Here is a list of all the things you need when choosing a signature style:
Your personality
Knowing yourself and whether or not you are reserved, quiet, loud, classy or funny may give you hints on what to wear for a hairstyle.
If you do not want to attract a lot of attention to yourself, it is probably best to stay away from dyes that are pink, green, or other non-traditional.
Maybe you love trends and you cannot wait to try the next new thing, then you are a bold girl and trying a ‘fro or different half-shaved styles may be your signature look.
I am bold in certain areas and I will walk around with an afro or Bantu knots with no problem, but on the other hand shaving my hair is something that could be a little more difficult. Try looking at hair models and catalogs to see which looks you like on the model.
Don’t be discouraged if your signature hairstyle is not “out there”
There are many people who are great with being bold and beautiful, but by design, some are not. Do not be discouraged if your signature look is a ponytail because you like the way that hairstyle looks.
There is nothing wrong with that at all! You can always spruce up a ponytail by adding perm rods* to the ends to make the look more interesting or play up your features by adding accessories and makeup.

Thank you for reading. I don’t take the photos, though. lol
My signature hairstyle is wearing my hair in two.
I have three. Wash and go, flat twist, and buns with synthetic hair.
