I have successfully maintained my curly hair wash and go routine for about a year now, and I do not show any signs of letting up. Here are my tips for maintaining a great curly hair wash and go routine in no particular order:
1. Do not be afraid to co wash
Sometimes we are sort of strict with when we wash our hair. The turth is, you should wash when your hair tells you to. If your hair feels dry… co wash, if you hair feels brittle, co wash, if you feel like having fresh hair in the morning, ….cowash*!.
2. Heavy on the moisturizer, light on the gel
If you have fine curls like mine it helps not to drown your hair in styling products. You can get very specific with curls you want to define, like the sides and the nape but allow the hair to breathe.
3. Style the hair in the shape you want when it dries
If you are rocking a wash and go and you typically like a side part, apply the products in that style and allow it to dry in the style.
4. Clean up the edges
When you edges look great, your wash and go will look great overall, so do not leave the edges out.
5. Apply products in order
Moisturizer, oil and then styler
6. You can cause heat damage with a blow dryer*
It helps to stretch the curls a bit, but be very careful because direct heat stretching can cause heat damage.
7. Do a final cold rinse
Before you get out of the shower to apply your moisturizer do a cold rinse to seal your cuticles
8. Do not over manipulate
You would be surprised how awesome your hair does shaping itself, let her work her own magic!
9. Never ever touch your hair while it is drying
I mean never touch it, just shake and let it dry. Once it is dry you can get rid of the crunch and put your curls in place
10. Enjoy shrinkage sometimes
Shrinkage is what makes our hair so darn amazing so embrace it sometimes, plus its sexy!
What are your tips for a great wash and go routine!
