I’m not saying that thinning hair due to illness or damaging techniques cannot regrow. I’m saying that if you had thin hair all of your life you will continue to have thin hair and vice versa for the thick haired naturals (unless they damage it and it starts to thin).
This is all outside of growing older since most women as they approach menopause may have to deal with some thinning of the hair.
Got The Facts, So Now What?
Well, despite what your parents gave you, a natural can create the appearance of having thicker hair and in more than one way. Here are a few:
Give your hair a boost – Many naturals have experienced thinning hair from chemically relaxing, coloring, illnesses or just hormones. Since you’ve had that hair in the past you can regain it by doing protein treatments and taking multi-vitamins* or hair vitamins* or even rubbing some castor oil* to the thinning areas. I’m currently doing this by doing a protein treatment once a month and taking Hairfinity* and the thickness I had during my younger years is coming back.
Layering your hair – Layers always gives hair the appearance of looking fuller and it’s not just for relaxed women. Many naturals have layered haircuts but remember to find a stylist that knows how to cut natural hair.
Embrace the shrinkage – Stretched hair looks thinner than curly/coily/kinky* hair. I know it’s a pain and shrinkage doesn’t allow you to show your length but embracing at least some shrinkage gives the appearance of bigger fuller hair so enjoy it and give the illusion that your hair is thicker than it really is.
Avoid straight hair – Avoid for two reasons. Straight hair is flat and looks much thinner than your coils and kinks. Additionally, you run the risk of heat damage by straightening with heat often and that damage can actually cause thinning hair.
Style on dry hair – This means fluffing your hair when it’s dry after you have styled it which will give your hair the appearance of looking fuller. Add a few sprays from your spray bottle to give a little frizz for even more fullness. Hey, frizz can come in handy when it comes to big hair! See this post on how to get more volume from your flat twist outs.
Stay away from sulfates and silicones – These ingredients tend to dry out our hair robbing it of it’s natural oils*. Dry hair breaks and broken hair is thinning hair. Silicones will also weigh down the hair since they are not water-soluble and give you a flat look which makes your hair appear thinner.
So, what’s your technique for adding fullness to your hair or do you feel there are products out there that really do add fullness or thicken the hair?
Jamaican black caster oil in a spray bottle with water. Use everyday and ur hair will be the thickest it’s ever been and at it’s most healthiest! Try and U will see . Any more question regarding natural hair ask Angel Johnson . Thanks and enjoy the rest of ur day ! We are all natural beauties ! That’s what i always say.

this really does work , i use it all the time and have seen big difference in my thin hair , purchase at beauty supply stores or amazon.com
Yes it does but I put shea butter, coconut oil, ancient secrets oil, and water in a bottle.
Castor oil does not work for everyone although many love it. It makes me break out but there are wonderful oils for thinning edges like garlic oil. Thanks for sharing!
Great advice I have seen it do wonders on people with really think hair or those with thick hair and wanted it to be even thicker
😀
I ain’t playing with Jamaican Castor Oil though :3 I can barely deal with my level of thickeness
yes, where can i find this product?
I have Fine hair. I need to know what to do with it. It will not hold curls, but it has a serious wave pattern. When I was younger it was train and as I got older it doesn’t want to do anything. It is growing now . I put a wave nouveau in my hair to get curls but all I got was serious wave pattern. Help!!! My email is not working but could you send answer to Facebook or intstrgram!!! Thank you have a Bless Day!!!!
Personally, I think that putting a curl in your hair contributes to fine and sometimes thin hair. At least it did for me, and I started out with fairly thick hair. Now, I am just natural, and I do have more body.
i was unaware Wave Nouoveaus were still being used. Is is still a chemical and like Elvira stated, it may be the reason your hair is being fine. You may want to discontiue using the chemicals and do monthly protein treatments, drink more water, take a hair supplement (Like biotin or Hairfinity) and be gentle to your hair.
Thank you !!!
I have done many hours of research and tried many products…there are good ones out there…I am very happy with my hair growth…all natural…hair goal is lower waist length…
YOu will get there too.

I’ve learnt that their is no product that can give you thicker hair only the illusion that it is. Thick hair is heredity…a born gene.
True.

Just inbox me any question on hair. Deep conditioners ect.
My hair has thickened since i let go of relaxers. You lose half your hairs from the relaxer. And, I have yet to find a product that fills in my edges or anything like that.
Did you have any problems with filling in your edges before you started relaxing?
JBCO
no, since i have a widow’s peak it just looks thin on the sides. but relaxer didn’t take away from the edges.
It works I use it and love it
Nothing can thicken your hair. It’s genetic, you are born with a certain number of hair follicles, you CANT create more follicles for hair to grow out of (hair density) and you CAN’T change the size of your strands (genetically it has to do with the amount of keratinized fibers you have).
Castor oil, henna and vitamins amongst other things most certainly work
Carmen Ferrer the Jamaican black caster oil will not only grow back ur edges but long and healthy.
I use groganics on the spot it makes your hair really really thick stop breakage it’s a really good product
Henna.
So I can find this 100% Jamaican black caster oil at most beauty supply store,, I would like to try it, and what kind of price are we look at
Vicki Monroe Holman yes U can and it’s between 7 to 14 dollars depending on the bottle size .
Ok my hair is super super thick it has always been like that some I was a child plus long. Well I dedicated to cut it in a really short Bob last year and I regret doing so I never had short hair in my life! I loved the cut at 1st but now I want my hair back lol no more cuts or perms for me ever again but I will trim my ends…. any suggests on how to achieve longer length?
Castor oil (JBCO)
Castor oil made my hair super thick
Pure castor oil or jbco
Nothing works for me. I’ve reluctantly accepted it.
Yea I wish I had thicker kinkier hair. My hair is kinda spirally. I have to sleep on it and not twist it then spray it in the morning for a thicker look. The struggle. Meanwhile my daughter’s have the thickest hair ever… I’m so jealous lol
Well! I have natural thick hair and if mind was thin I would still be happy and smiling!
I don’t think there are products that will make your hair thicker if you naturally have thin hair. (Naturally meaning Genetically). But people that has thinning hair but is naturally thick, those are the people I think certain products can help, if it’s not too late..Sometimes hair thins due to aging and illness and can be irreversible.
Conditioning packets, hot oil treatments
My niece had paper thin hair I used coconut hair grease and mixed it with some monistat yes monistat and now it’s thicker
Really, monistat ? How long have you been doing that regimen on her hair? How did you come up with mixing monistat?
I was blessed with dense hair but years of relaxers did make my edges thin (you stylist trying to get them bone straight and over manipulating them with the crème on it and even more with the blow dryer). Once I went natural they started to fill in but nothing like I had as a teenager. I’ve been using JBCO and coconut oil and that has helped a lot.
That was supposed to read, “you know, stylist trying to get them bone straight” not you stylist, LOL
No. It’s genetic and you can’t change how the hair is produced in the follicle.
i sport a wash-n-go as opposed to braid outs, twist outs or knots. i don’t comb or brush, i always layer in sections to give the appearance of more volume, and i embrace the shrinkage! all these things together really help my hair look bigger! now when i say my hair is thin people don’t believe me anymore! i think i might be on to something! 🙂
I read that lavender oil adds volume to the hair shaft. Im going to try it.
I use henna, Jamaican Black Castor Oil mixed with peppermint oil but am going to add water to the mix from hearing you guys. I seal with a shea butter, coconut oil, olive oil, jojoba mix. I then add a positive attitude, while embracing my shrinkage and I am extremely happy! Nothing is impossible! 🙂
Dang..no hope for me..I have low density fine hair with extreme shrinkage…..oh well.lol
Doo Gro
LaKeisha Alexander read this 🙂
This is true!! I have been taking hairfinity for about 6 months. I got the length, but not a lot of thickness!!!
Doo gro Mega thick the one with blue writing
Since my hair is natural it is heavy when I wash it I feel like I’m going to drown.
Try using henna. It has really thickened my hair to the point where when I am outside, my head never gets cold and it’s made my hair super thick!
That’s not true . When I had permed hair , I had thin hair probably because of the chemicals and improper hair care . Now I’m natural and I’m still learning how to take care of my hair but my hair is healthy now .My hair is really thick yet my mom has thinner fine natural hair .
Hair thickness comes from dna
